1955 Wine and Port Vintage

Italian: The 1955 Italian vintage was part of a run of solid vintages between 1954 and 1958. The main regions of Tuscany and Piedmont produced rich, full bodied wines. Wines from this vintage are mature but heavy-weights such as Brunello and Barolos are going on strong, and will offer an excellent drinking experience if kept well.

Bordeaux: The 1955 Bordeaux wine vintage is now considered to be outstanding. Good weather conditions led to a large, healthy crop. For many years the wines from the 1955 vintage were much maligned for being harsh and impenetrable. However, decades of maturation have softened them and they are now at their peak. The wines are characterised by being full bodied and rich.

Portugal: 1955-vintage-portThe 1955 port vintage produced outstanding, fruity wines for long-term ageing - a real pleasure to drink, now or in a few decades time. One of the most underrated Vintages of the 20th Century, 1955 was declared by most of the major Port houses and would make a brilliant 67 year old wine gift for a birthday or anniversary celebration this year. Ports from this vintage are characterised by having outstanding fruit and being superbly balanced wines, fruity, smooth and concentrated.

This Year in History: Fun Fact: The average house price in Great Britain in 1955 is just £1,928.
Born in this Year: Steve Jobs, Entrepreneur, led the personal computer revolution by co-founding Apple with Steve Wozniak. During his time as CEO of Apple, the company released such revolutionary devices as the iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad. He also founded the software company NeXT and was a chairman for Pixar and a member of The Walt Disney Company's board of directors.

Taylor's Port, 1955

Vintage Port
Excellent provenance | Level in neck

These bottles have been kept in perfect condition in a good cellar since first release.

Taylors 1955 Vintage Port.
Review
The only vintage Taylor’s declared in the 1950s. According to the Fladgate Partnership, ‘one of the most underrated vintages of the century’. Taylor’s own two great vineyards in the Douro, Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta de Terra Feita. Both are categorised grade A - the highest possible rating. In years when Taylor’s produces a classic vintage, wines from these two estates are blended together. As they are some 20 miles apart, and subject to very different micro climates, they combine to produce a powerful, long lived and complex vintage port.
