Tasting Notes: The 1970 Port from Palmer has a light oak colour with a verdant edge on the rim highlighting a colheita of exceptional age and quality. Much elegance on the nose with orange peel, walnuts, figs and a touch of honey. On the palate there is a lightness that is balanced by a good acidity. This port wine delivers a beautiful flavour supported by a long, long finish. Outstanding.

Up to 2009, Giovanni's son Alessandro looked after the beautiful vineyards situated in the long hills surrounding Piemonte. This 1970 Vintage Port from Burmester has been stored at the Burmester cellars in Porto since bottling. This is a very limited edition cellar release for VWP.
This wine has a beautiful, mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa chocolate together with a zesty orange undertone. On the palate it is complex. Medium-bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for the next decade or so. From the outstanding 1970 vintage. The colour is more tawny than red, and fairly light. It gives the distinct impression of a very old, very mature vintage Port.
The nose gives a strong impression of honey and is followed by sweet grapes and soft red fruits. Very slightly spirity, but not so much that it interferes. This all changes after 5 hours as the honey and fruits nearly vanish and the nose became spirity.
Palate: Very soft and elegant with a very faint smokey note. There's more "sweet" to it than anything else, but it's not a pure sugary sweetness but rather the remains of a sweet fruit compote. …

Vintage port

Very pale ruby that fades to a light pink at the edge. The nose is of plums and strawberries. Some nice carmalized flavours along with some very dark (almost overripe) plums, and almost no noticeable heat. The finish is not long, but not clipped either and there is a pleasant aftertaste of dates.
