2002 Wine and Port Vintage

Italian: The 2002 was a poor vintage for Italian wines - only the best producers' wines will be reliable for quality.

Bordeaux: For the third year in a row Bordeaux pulled off yet another miracle vintage, thanks to a final bout of fine weather. The long, fine, sunny days of early autumn - and a great October, in fact - opened the way for some fine wines. The best-prepared chateaux made wines ranging from good to excellent. Their wines are strongly built and truly the “Highs” of the vintage. They have high acids (about 15% higher than normal), high alcohol content (over 13% natural alcohol), high tannin content, and high fruit content. They also have tight structure, dark colours, and lots of power. Quite full-bodied, these could make a great 21 year old wine gift for an anniversary this year.

Champagne: The 2002 is proving to be the finest Champagne vintage since 1996, more redolent of 1995 or 1990 in terms of the ripeness of fruit and power of structure.

Portugal:

2002-wine-gifts

The 2002 Port Vintage was a potentially excellent one for those who picked their grapes before the rains which came late in the season, however, not so great for those who did not.

Quevedo, 2002

Colheita Port, Douro

2002 was a difficult year. Definitively the biggest challenge of the decade - even for Quevedo. Since no grapes were used to produced Vintage Port, their best selection was used to make this Colheita. With 20 years of ageing in their cellar, this is probably the most elegant and complex Colheita produced so far.

Burmester, 2002

Vintage Port, Douro
Presented in Wooden Gift Box
Library Release

This 2002 Burmester Vintage Port has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Burmester cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

from the very good 2002 Port Vintage the Burmester has a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for a couple of decades.

93 Points - Wine Spectator
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast

We are delighted to exclusively offer in the UK these outstanding Ports and wines from one of the most iconic estate in the Douro Valley. Quinta Das Carvalhas

As wood-aged Colheitas go, this is young, emphasizing fruit rather than wood aging. That makes a spicy wine with toffee and caramel flavors that has layers of red fruits and acidity. The wood shows fitfully through at the end. Roger Voss

Louis Roederer Cristal, 2002

Cristal, Champagne
In Presentation Box

Established in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining completely independent family-owned, great Champagne houses. In 1876 Tsar Alexander II, who was already a great fan of Louis Roederer’s Champagne, asked Louis Roederer to go one step further and produce, for his own personal consumption, a unique wine in quality and bottle.

Louis Roederer offered to create an exceptional white crystal bottle to house the best selection from the 7 finest vineyards of his estate. This wine was only produced in the “great” years when the ripeness of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir enabled a subtle, precise balance.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 2002

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification, Bordeaux
** 93 Points- RobertParker.com **

93 Points (Parker)
94 Points (Wine Journal)

Reviews "One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage. A brilliant effort, it should be at its best between 2008 and 2020." PArker Wine Advocate, 2005

"Just a fantastic wine…clean, fresh, bright and bushy tailed on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, cedar-wood and a real palpable sense of terroir.
