The Symington family, the owner of Smith Woodhouse, is pleased to announce that it has decided to declare the 2016 Vintage, just the third Vintage Port release from Smith Woodhouse in the last decade. As in previous Vintage Port declarations, this is a very small bottling and represents the very best production from Smith Woodhouse’s own Quinta da Madalena vineyard. Smith Woodhouse has a long association with one of the Douro Valley’s finest areas, the Rio Torto Valley, from where it has traditionally sourced grapes for its premium wines, particularly for its Vintage Ports. Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port, 2007
Vintage Port HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl
Massive hedgerow nose and great balance with lovely aromatics and fine tannins. Boxes well above its weight.
Although considered a 'lighter' member of the great Port houses, Smith Woodhouse excells in great years such as 2007 where it delivers not only value for money but a vintage Port that will repay a decade or more in the cellar.

Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port, 2003
The structured, ungenerous dark ruby-colored 2003 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port offers a nose of tobacco, smoke, and black fruits. Its tannic character exhibits flavors of stones, black plums, blackberries, boysenberries, and hints of cigar box. Appealingly expressive yet firm, this wine softened slightly over a 4 day period, revealing notes of spicy molasses. It will be at its best between 2018 and 2028.

The 1997 Smith Woodhouse has a lovely lively colour, just picked cherries in the nose and in the taste.

A boutique artisan producer, Smith Woodhouse was founded in 1784 and acquired by the Symington family in 1970. Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port, 1978
Crusted Port - bottled in 1978
Smith Woodhouse Crusted is a blend of excellent young ports from two or three harvests, bottled without any fining or filtration in 1978. This Port was then aged in bottle in the cellars in Portugal for three years before being offered for sale. Crusted Port derives its name from the fact, that exactly like Vintage Port it will throw a “crust” or natural deposit with bottle age.
