Krohn Port, 1976

Colheita Single Harvest Port in Individual Wooden Box

Wiese & Krohn is now run by the third generation of the Falc√£o Carneiro family. This small boutique Port House makes some terrific Late Bottled Vintage Port, in addition to Vintage Port but my favourite is the Colheitas.

A Colheita is a vintage tawny port. Tawny is lighter in colour and style than a traditional Vintage Port but if anything is even more delicious as it is a touch more elegant. They age beautifully too and represent great value.

Youthful, medium brick red. Lots of young plummy fruit aromas, as well as dried fruit, figs and nuts on the nose. Really smooth on the palate, silky and elegant in texture with balanced acidity, more dried fruit and spice notes.

Krohn Port, 1970

Vintage Port

Tasting note: Pale tawny colour with a broad amber rim. The nose has an attractive warm nutty character, notes of marzipan and walnut fusing with aromas of black coffee. Discreet musky animal notes give the wine a sensuous wild dimension. The palate is rich and mellow but lifted by an attractive zesty herbal finish. A beautifully mature Vintage Port ready for drinking now.

Krohn Port, 1967

Vintage Port - Library stock from Krohn Cellars

These bottles have impeccable provenance having been held in Krohn's own cellars since bottling. They were imported by VWP Dec 16.

Tasting note: Outstanding!! Pale tawny fading to amber on the rim. The nose is complex and multi-dimensional, notes of wild herbs, plum and mocha, coffee, tobacco around around a warm core. The palate displays a smooth, silky texture and finishes with a burst of rich mellow flavour. The finish is long and elegant. A, finely constituted port that is drinking well now but with careful cellaring it will hold for a few years.

Krohn Port, 1965

Vintage Port

Tasting note: Tawny brown of medium intensity and a narrow amber rim. The nose of this wine is sumptuous in its richness and complexity. The undercurrent of creamy butterscotch aroma is overlaid with notes of vanilla and raisin, a discreet fragrance of violets and pungent resiny scents of garigue. The palate is round and velvety, finishing with a surge of rich caramel flavour. A seductive Vintage Port, one of the best examples from this year.

Vintage Port

Dark compotes with strong balsamic notes in the nose. Smells a little like cognac. It is very smooth, filled with molasses and plums and leading to an extremely long jammy and spicy finish.
