Gigi Rosso - Bricco San Pietro, Piedmont

Gigi Rosso winery sits in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo land. It carries the name of its founder Gigi, one of Barolo’s and Langhe pioneers. The next generation, Maurizio and his son Andreas are now managing Gigi Rosso winery. The passage to the second and third generation brings energy and new ideas to the business. As Gigi expressed in his own words: “I was born in the vineyards. I grew up in the vineyards. And the vineyards are my heart and soul. The Langhe are my home. This land gave me a very precious gift. As a thank you, every year, I harvest its fruits and look after them like a mother looks after her babies.

Massolino Serralunga, Barolo, Piedmont
95 - Wine Enthusiast
*** 17/20 Points- JancisRobinson.com ***
*** 92 Points- Wine Advocate ***

The 2017 Massolino Barolo grapes come from different vineyards and this gives them a broad and variable spectrum of perfumes, ranging from tempting spicy notes to those of a sweeter, floral and fruity nature.
Flavour: a variety of sensations, with a full-bodied, classic and well structured wine which ages well and perfectly represents the important character of our land. It is best to decant and serve it at temperatures between 18-20°C.
It achieves its best expression when served with red meats, particularly game, and with dishes dressed with truffle. It is also excellent with fresh egg pasta and meat sauce, and with risotto, as well as medium-mature cow’s milk and goat’s milk cheeses.

Barolo, 2017

Massolino - Margheria, Piedmont
***96 - Wine Enthusiast***
***93 Points- Wine Advocate***

The Cru is located in Serralunga d'Alba, at an altitude of around 280 metres above sea level. It occupies an area of about one and a half hectares.
Purchased by our family in the 1970s, Margheria is one of the most celebrated MGA in Serralunga.
With south-westerly exposure, the average age of the vines is around 40 years.
The soil composition gives the wines elegance, with mineral and spicy notes accompanied by potency and longevity.
Barolo DOCG Margheria draws much of its character from calcareous soil, with a slightly higher percentage of sand than in our other subzones. Made for the first time in 1985, it has great ageing potential, like the great Barolo wines of Serralunga.

Massolino Parussi, Barolo, Piedmont

94 Points Wine Advocate

To Produce Barolo DOCG Parussi, Massolino left the confines of Serralunga, choosing a vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. Thanks to the characteristics of Nebbiolo, a grape variety capable of capturing the differences in microclimate and soil composition and translating them into sensations, the result astonished us. Structured, important, austere.
Altitude: 290 m above sea level.

Total surface area: 1.65 hectares.

Soil composition: mixed consistency.

Average age of vines: 40 years.

First year of production: 2007

On the palate it is voluminous, velvety and round. A medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins, noticeable acidity and a long, balsamic finish.

Vigna Rionda.. A very particular place for Barolo, which expresses something special, visceral and overwhelming.

Bourgogne, 2017

Grand Vin de Borgogne, Burgundy
Florent Garaudet Monthelie Vieilles Vignes
***93 Points VertdeVin***

This is a complex red made from Pinot Noir, with powerful, forward black cherry aromatics, exotic spice, and hints of earth. Florent’s use of 400-liter barrels for aging adds dimensional texture without overpowering the nose or palate. On the palate, this rare wine evokes the silkiness of Volnay and the power of Pommard.

About this wine producer: Like Raphaël Bérêche, Florent Garaudet is a self-confident, socially intelligent visionary, who, at the age of twenty-three was impatient to strike out on his own. So instead of coming to work alongside his father, Paul Garaudet, on the estate that has been in the family for five generations,

Chateau Cissac, 2017

Medoc, Cru Bourgeois, Bordeaux
Includes Leather Effect Presentation Box
*** 90 Points- Wine Enthusiast ***

A 2017 vintage Bordeaux wine. This is the beauty of decent Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux if stored well - it makes demands on the taster (patience and consideration). Not a wine from those who prefer to 'pop and pour' who miss out on most of the quality and character.

The 2017 has a good rich colour - browning just a little at the rim. This bottle demands patience when opening as it needs time to develop. Good blackcurrant nose. Plum, damson on the palate with balancing blackcurrant acidity. Dusty tannins on the end palate at first but the tannin softened in the glass, even without food. With food it is excellent.

Fonseca Port, 2017

Vintage Port- MAGNUM, DOC Douro
*** 17.5/20 - Jancis ***
*** 95/100 - Vinous ***
*** 18/20 - Mayson ***

A narrow magenta ring around a core of inky purple black. The nose opens with a burst of dark, woodland fruit, dense and succulent, blended with fresher, more vibrant red berry aromas. A slatey minerality holds this exuberant fruitiness in check. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic scents and cedary notes of sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of tightly packed, dense dark berry fruit, which then explodes on the mid-palate and surges into the long finish. The texture is round and velvety but the taut, sinewy tannins and a strand of crisp acidity provide firmness and structure.

La Spinetta, Piedmont
Barbaresco- Starderi
***96 Point- James Suckling***

In 1996 we acquired the Starderi vineyard, which is located on the hills just behind those of Gallina.
Despite the two vineyards being geographically in the vicinity of one another, they hold very distinct characteristics which are determined by the crucial differences in microclimate, exposure and terrain. The Tanaro river, which flows at the bottom of the valley, affects the climate by mitigating both the extreme winters and the drastic hot summers.

Starderi always produces wines which express a rich character while maintaining great elegance. This difference is pronounced in the aromas: Starderi shows mainly hints of red berries and ripe fruit.
