Cabral Port, 1871

Colheita Port, DOC Douro

A rare bottling of Cabral 1871 port. Bottled in the 1970's from cask. Tasted by Michael Broadbent in 2001 with the following comments "Pale tawny indicating many, possibly 50 years, in wood; slightly varnishy on the nose but still sweet and delicious."

This Port was bought from The Dower House, Tewkesbury and whilst they do not have labels and the capsules are plain, the port dates from 1871 (bottled in the 1970s); please ask for further details. One bottle from this collection was previously opened; the cork for which had the date of 1871 and Cabral which is Serafim Cabral of Quinta de Loueiro.

Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac, 1870

Ryst Dupeyron Collectioneur, Armagnac

The 1870 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round. Includes cerificate

Barbeito, 1870

Barbeito Rare Rich Malmsey, Madeira

Tasting Note: "Deep, rich color. Lots of dark fruit and chocolate on nose and palate. Bit of unexpected nuttiness in the finish. Round mouth-feel, but not overly coating/syrupy. - Cellar Tracker 2015.

Barbeito Madeira is a renowned producer of Madeira wine, which is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira. Established in 1946, Barbeito is one of the few independent, family-owned producers of Madeira. Mario Barbeito founded his company in what was a dark time for Madeira with many companies going out of business. He had faith in the future. He also believed—just as Charles Ridpath Blandy, H.

Blandys, 1863

Malmsey Solera 1863 Madeira
Rewaxed

Bottled by Edward Young and Co London.

Malmsey (also known as Malvasia) has its fermentation halted when its sugars are between 3.5 and 6.5° Baumé. This style of wine is characterised by its dark colour, rich texture, and coffee-caramel flavours. Like other Madeiras made from the noble grape varieties, the Malvasia grape used in Malmsey production has naturally high levels of acidity in the wine, which balances with the high sugar levels so the wines do not taste cloyingly sweet.

Madeira, 1861

Lomelino Madeira Sercial Solera

This is an incredible fortified wine made from the Sercial grape variety aged in a solera system whereby maturing barrels are topped up with younger wines to build balance and complexity whilst also increasing their elegance and freshness. After spending around half a century in casks it was put into demi-johns prior to bottling. It is wonderfully scented with notes of dried fruits, citrus peel, coffee grounds and spices. A remarkably complex and concentrated wine to be enjoyed over several days.

Gomes Madeira, 1860

Boal Solera Luiz Gomes, Madeira

Amazing vintage wine from the year 1860 same year that Abraham Lincoln was elected president in America and the year that the telephone was invented.

This old-styled Madeira, apparently delicate and almost fragile in its structure, gains a lot with age. In their youth they might appear more simple sometimes but age adds complexity and depth.

Shakespeare referred to the wine of the Madeira as precious essence, in his piece Henry IV.

Porto Valriz, 1858

Very Very Old Tawny Port, DOC Douro
Coimbra de Mattos

This Port wine is one of the oldest available in the world! The wine was produced in 1858 by Domingos Ayres de Mattos (1829-1890) and kept in bottles in the cellar of his residence, “Casa de Cima”. Domingos’ son Antonio Ayres de Mattos (1879-1956), father of the current owners of this family owned business, was aware of the wine’s exceptional quality and (possibly motivated by sentimental reasons), wanted to leave the destiny of such a ‘treasure’ to his heirs. The wines were tasted in 1969 and again in 2013 for quality control. Almost the entire stock was found to be in perfect condition. In 2013 the owners decided to re-bottle and sell a small quantity of this exceptional port.

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1850

Verdelho Madeira

*** 97 Points Wine Advocate ***

"The 1850 Verdelho remains an exquisite Madeira that is one of the finest ever produced in this, the founding year of the winery. It has a well-defined bouquet with seductive notes of fresh marmalade, quince, dried mango and melted candle wax. The palate is crisp and well-defined with superb acidity that is perfectly in tune with the spice-laden vestiges of decayed fruit. It is fresh and taut, performing impressively for its 162-years of age." The Wine Advocatey).

Colour: very dark mahogany brown, softened by golden shimmer.
