For 200 years, Blandy’s Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine. The Blandy’s are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. Reviews
The 1981 Malmsey Madeira by Blandy's is deep amber-red in colour; lifted, toasted and singed on the nose, really rather wonderful, this sings from the glass;

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1980

Boal Madeira

The founders of D’Oliveiras were visionaries that saw the true value of Madeira Wine: its ability to improve over time. D’Oliveiras is the only Madeira Wine company that owns Madeira Wine bottles and barrels from as far as the 1850’s that can still be commercially purchased. Bottled and painted by hand, this 1980 Boal Madeira has been aged for more than 40 years in old French oak barrels in the 17th century wine lodge in the heart of old Funchal.

Tasting Note: Medium orange amber color with 1 millimeter clear meniscus; appealing, light coffee, almond, reminiscent of Moroccan bastilla on the nose with a hint of passion fruit;

Sercial
HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl

The 1980 Blandys Sercial Madeira is "Based on Sercial grown on the north west corner of the island at Seixal and Porto Moniz where I am told that this grape produces the most gentle fruit: lovely clean, lifted aromas, green fruit, apple peel with a touch of citrus; lovely fresh appley flavours with a hint of toffee and milk-chocolate, perhaps just a touch of salinity, steely acidity running all the way through, fresh and lithe on the finish, dry but not austerely so with 55g/l of residual sugar. Just 800 bottles in total."

Terrantez Madeira
Presented in Wooden Gift Box

Blandy’s Terrantez 1980

Review bySarah Ahmed "The Wine Detective". "I’m a huge Terrantez fan and this one ticks all the right boxes. Smooth on the nose with a smooze of light caramel and sweet café crème. A lick of tobacco herbality – greener – lends appetising lift. The saliva glands are at work already! And so it is in the mouth – almost creamy on entry, yet penetrating too thanks to its lively, very persistent backbone of acidity. Delicate staccato spices and a lick of toffee apple seduce. That bottled electricity, v.a. accelerant fires up a super long, reverberating finish, its delicious woody, mellow timbre deftly leavened by that light, herbal riff.

50 Year Old Madeira

50 Year Old Henriques & Henriques Tinta Negra (Comes in Original H&H gift box as illustrated)

The first ever 50 Year Old Tinta Negra is absolutely stunning! This is the 1st time Tinta Negra has ever been seen this way and with ONLY 2,700 (50cl) bottles produced for the entire world market, it looks a pretty amazing offering

2015 saw Tinta Negra promoted to the status of ‘recommended grape’ and thus is now allowed to be mentioned on labels. In addition, a new 50 Year-Old category has been implemented; this is designed to bridge the gap between 15/20 Year-Old Colheitas and much older single-year Madeiras, and offers drinkers the opportunity to buy some properly old cask-aged Madeiras at prices considerably below those of the older vintage bottlings.

Madeira, 1971

Miles Malmsey Madeira

The island of Madeira, of volcanic origin, was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese Captain, João Gonçalves Zarco, and is an archipelago composed of two inhabited islands – Madeira and Porto Santo – and two small uninhabited islets, the Desertas and the Selvagens.
Madeira’s location in the Atlantic made it an important strategic port of call which led to the rapid expansion of the island’s wine, especially in countries such as the United States of America.
It was so popular in the USA that in the 18th century, Madeira wine is reported to have represented over 75% of all wine imported into this market.

Leacock, 1966

Bual

John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company. Bottled in 1994 after 28 years in cask, this totally unique vintage Madeira is sweet, though markedly less so than Malmsey Madeira.

Madeira, 1958

MMV - Boal - Bottled by Barbeito *

This is a rare and limited release of the 1958 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1958 Boal is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.
