Taylor's Port, 1988

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it, thereby producing a wine with the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Chateau Musar, 1987

Bekaar Valley, Gaston Hochar
Magnum 1.5L

This rare 1987 Musar is a blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Carignan from this well-known and highly regarded Lebanese winery.

Chateau Musar is often referred to as the Lafite of the Lebanon. Wine maker Gaston Hochar defied the odds producing a string of great wines during the Lebanon War. Musar has assumed legendary status. Complex, long-lived and endlessly varied, in some vintages it seems more like a Burgundy, in others a Bordeaux, in still others a Hermitage. But it is always brilliantly, uniquely, Lebanese. Ages magnificently but good vintages are usually best at 10-20 years old.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1986

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

95 Points - Robert Parker

Reviews: "The 1986 is a highly extracted wine, with a black/ruby color and plenty of toasty, smoky notes in its bouquet that suggest ripe plums and licorice. Evolving at a glacial pace, it exhibits massive, huge, ripe, extremely concentrated flavors with impressive depth and richness. It possesses power, weight, and tannin." Parker, Wine Advocate 1994

"his bottle is similar to the one last year: dense, masculine, wet sand, austere on the nose, as if the wine is slamming a door in your face, but after a time there is a lovely touch of cardamom that develops. The palate suggests that it is worth cellaring,

Montepulciano, 1986

d'Abruzzo, Casal Thaulero - Roseto degli Abruzzi

Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there (see Vino Nobile di Montepulciano). Globally appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food. The deep-purple juice of Montepulciano grapes is used in varying proportions to produce wines under roughly 50 of Italy's DOC and DOCG titles. Although sometimes used on its own,

Kopke, 1985

Colheita Port
In Original Kopke presentation box
Special Offer | was £89.95 | Now £79.95

Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its wines.

Review:
The 1985 has a topaz color with glints of fiery orange. The nose of vanilla and toasted almonds leads to buttery rich caramel flavors with hints of dried strawberries, finishing with soft Columbian coffee and pink grapefruit zest.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel.

Borges, 1985

Vintage Port

Very pale ruby that fades to a light pink at the edge. The nose is of plums and strawberries. Some nice carmalized flavours along with some very dark (almost overripe) plums, and almost no noticeable heat. The finish is not long, but not clipped either and there is a pleasant aftertaste of dates.

Churchill's Port, 1985

Vintage Port

This has a great colour, still very dense and dark. On the nose there are notes of dried fruit, dried blueberries, juniper berries with a little smoke. This is very nice and certainly has a lot of style. The palate is rich, refined, firm and structured, with a firm backbone of alcohol beneath a creamy midpalate. Reserved yet flavoursome, with more of those juniper berry notes and a deliciously sweet but precisely presented texture, this wine is really coming round very nicely. Fine and balanced, a pleasure to drink.

Clos du Marquis, 1985

St Julien
Second Wine of Chateau Leoville Lascases

The 1985 Clos du Marquis is the second wine of the famous Chateau Leoville Lascases. Still ruby with bricking edge. Wonderful, ready nose, cedar, fresh but totally secondary, more forest loam than cherries at this point, with a welcome line of herbs to give it some lift. Palate nicely balanced but narrowed with age, plus it was never a powerful vintage to begin with.

Dolcetto, 1985

di Dogliani, Luigi Einaudi

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Excellent Provenance. These bottles of Fonseca 1985 Vintage Port have been shipped straight from Fonseca's Cellars in Oporto to our cellars in Fordingbridge. They are in perfect condition.

The 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port has a lovely nose of maturing port, finely styled and just screaming quality. The palate carries a svelte texture, with a creamy, flattering character. There is purity, balance, a clean, bright quality and despite this lots of appealing grip. This has great impact, and yet is so welcoming and alluring. Excellent wine, and a great example of the vintage. (November 2006).

Dense ruby/purple with the Oriental spice-box aroma,

Graham's Port, 1985

Vintage Port
***96 Points- RobertParker.com***
torn label- Bin soiled

An exceptional Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points

Graham is a great port house, producing one of the deepest-coloured and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. It is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length.

Warre's Vintage Port, 1985

Vintage Port
Stained Label

From the outstanding 1985 Vintage
Reviews: "Lovely orange skins nose, together with nuts and figs. On the palate, it has finesse, elegance and such a sweet kickback. Massively enchanting and, now it is over the magic 20 years, perfection to drink."
Serena Sutcliffe , Cuisine & Wine Asia 2008

Very very dark. Sweet, spicy, liquorice nose. Very broad start to the palate and then dried fruits on the finish. Lots of firm tannins still. Still relatively embryonic. Heat on the finish. Lovely spice on the finish. Not the most stereotypically feminine Warre style of wine. Powerful finish. Almost brawny with some wild fruit and flower flavours on the nose.

Barbera, 1984

G. Troglia

Barolo, 1984

Marchesa Vincenza Stanga

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods with no problem at all.

Réserve de la Comtesse

This second wine, produced by Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, is strongly characterised by its high proportion of Merlot. Cypres de Climens, 1984

Barsac- Sauternes
Sweet White Wine

The Cyprès de Climens is the second label wine of Chateau Climens.

The wines are made primarily from the Sémillon grape, with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle sometimes playing supporting roles. The beauty and depth of the wines depends on the unique fall weather conditions in this part of Bordeaux — especially the early morning mists that rise from the nearby rivers — that allow the development of Botrytis cinerea, commonly known as noble rot, on the grapes. This fungus gives the grapes their concentrated sweetness without diminishing the all-important acidity that makes the wines so vibrant.
