The 1976 Haut-Brion is medium ruby in color, with some amber creeping in at the edges. The wine has been fully mature since the early eighties, yet it is still drinking well. This wine really lives up to the nature of the vintage. Tannins still present , but sufficient fruit to balance the wine. Just a bit of bricking, slight sedimentation, colour still dark purple. Floral fruity nose, with a trace of iron. Slight chalky finish, clearly more tannic than it's age suggests. Suggest something meaty to go with the tannins.

The 1975 Dows Vintage Port is from a vintage that has been long under-rated. I have had repeated tastings of the 75's and whilst not in the same class as the 66 or 70 vintages, nevertheless present an outstanding quality vs price buy. When you consider that recent releases retail around the £80-£90 mark and need 20 years of storage before drinking this represents a bargain. Decanted for 4 hours, the 1975 Dows is fully mature with a nice tawny colour. The recent bottles I have tasted have been very nicely developed and drinking perfectly now. The 1970 Butler Nephew Vintage is a top quality vintage port produced before the company was purchased by Gonzalas Byas and entered into decline. The wine is dark (60% opaque), light nose of candy and vanilla. Very sweet with a full body and serious backbone. A mixture of black cherries, raisins, dates and licorice on the palate overlaid with a little lavender. The backbone does balances some of the sweetness which leads to a long, long finish. Barsac

A wonderful fruity dessert wine from the 1970 vintage that is still drinking well.

Château Liot is a 20-hectare property producing on average 5,500 cases per year. It is located in the south-west of the Barsac appellation and its vineyards border those of Château Climens. Liot's vineyards (Sémillon 85%, Sauvignon Blanc 10%, Muscadelle 5%) lie on a gravel/silt/alluvial topsoil and limestone subsoil.
The grapes are fermented in vats and the wine is then matured in oak barrels (15% new) for 15-18 months. Liot's wines are typically fresh and refined and display marvellous purity of fruit.

A similar russet core, though a little clearer than the ’66. The nose has good definition and focus with an attractive bouquet of cooked meats, mulberry, spice and leather. Light and feminine, although it never really develops the nuance that I was hoping for in the glass.
