Late Bottled Vintage Reserve Port SINGLE BOTTLE 75cl

Blended from wines of a single year, Late Bottled Vintage Port ages from four to six years in cask and is ready to drink when bottled. Its concentrated fruity flavour and firm, full-bodied style make Taylor's LBV the perfect port to accompany chocolate desserts, and blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort. Rivesaltes, 1968

Chateau Rombeau Vin Doux Natural

80-120 g/l residual sugar usually, vinified at the domaine, which doubles as a very good Catalan restaurant, or cave auberge, in Rivesaltes village itself.
Deep ruby/tawny. Raisiny and lots of acidity. A little gritty. Rancio after long, warm wood-ageing of a blend of Grenache of all three colours. There may also be a little Muscat Alexandre in blends this ‘young’.

Bergerac, 1966

Unidor

Dusty rose color in the glass, slightly opaque hue throughout. Nose of black cherries, black licorice, red cherries, maybe a little mocha finishing with a touch of cedar. Very light and simple flavors of red berries, a little mineral and a touch of earth towards the finish. Integrated tannins, moderate acidity and good finish.

Bordeaux, 1966

Cordier - Saint Emilion

Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. One of the world's most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux's wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1966

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
Level base of neck, bin soiled label

*** 96 Points - Wine journal ***
"My God, this is a wonderful mature Lafite. Served blind chez Rosemary George MW it has a definable Pauillac nose with subtle notes of cedar, sous-bois and a touch of dried blood. It has incredible harmony and purity – a bouquet that has you instantly captivated. The palate does not disappoint: a beguiling sense of natural harmony and delineation, not the weight of Latour nor the femininity of Margaux, but a Lafite aiming for understated sophistication. Delicate cedar and cigar box towards the finish that just goes on and on. This bottle vindicates my first encounter in Bordeaux, when it similarly bewitched its audience.

Cotes du Rhone, 1966

Claude Mercier

Côtes du Rhône is a huge appellation in the south of France encompassing 40,300 ha. Plenty of white and rosé wine is produced in Côtes du Rhône but there can be no doubt that red is king. Usually Grenache will dominate the blend (except in the north where Syrah is allowed to be top dog, but these wines are relatively few) and is normally partnered with Syrah and/or Mourvèdre but a further 18 varieties are also permitted! A cheerful example might be light, soft, fruity and easy-drinking, while the finest examples may be full-bodied, concentrated, intense, spicy and ageworthy. But what they all invariably have in common is a fabulous sense of place and lashings of personality and character.

Fonseca Port, 1966

Vintage Port
High Shoulder Level
Plain Label

The Fonseca 1966 vintage port has a russet rim around an intense brick-red centre. The nose is elegant and restrained, with very fine dark berry fruit at the core, still linear and undeveloped. The fruit is enveloped in a subtle aura of floral scent and notes of aromatic wood. Dense and firm on the palate, still delivering a fresh and youthful fruitiness and vinosity alongside warm flavours of liquorice and black coffee. Still reserved and showing wonderful poise and finesse, the Fonseca 1966 is without any doubt one of the finest Ports of this exceptional year.

Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port.

Reserve (late Bottled) Port

The 1965 Dow Reserve is a rare wine. Bottled in 1973

Generations of Symington winemakers have worked at the Dow's vineyards: Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira, creating from them Dow's superbly concentrated wines that are intense and tannic when young, maturing towards a superlative racy elegance with age and scented with violet and mint aromas. Dow's attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house.

Chateau Margaux, 1964

Margaux, 1er Grand Cru Classe (very top shoulder)

Critic tasting note: "If this was not the wine of the day it came real close. The unnaturally red color has only some orange nuances on the edge. The bouquet is an explosion of balsamic sensations, holly, tanned leather and lots of spice. The pepper is abundant as are the sensations of blood in the background. The mouthfeel is still taut thanks to an epic yet not invasive acidity that is in perfect balance within a structure of unique elegance. The fine and thick tannins have by now settled but tactilely lift everything to a higher level. A wine dreams are made of." - 99/100, Doctorwine

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1964

Patriarche Pere

The red wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape blossom and reach their prime between their third and fifth year, but their potential for aging is over ten years and more according to the vintage and storage conditions. Their color changes from intense garnet-purple in the early years to ruby after some cellaring. These wines are structured, with powerful and complex aromas of ripe fruit, mushrooms, truffles, underbrush, spicy notes, and wild animals.

Spanna, 1964

Cantina Curti - Riserva

Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy’s greatest ageing wines. Spanna’s longevity can be attributed, at least in part, to the addition of smaller amounts of less tannic, more acidic grape varieties. Tasting notes: The nose opens up beautifully after about an hour and the wine has gorgeous ripe and sweet fruit, nice acidity, and perfectly softened tannins. This is a very individual and complex wine.
