Vintage Bual Madeira 75cl - In original Blandy's gift box as illustrated

Blandy’s Vintage Bual 1957 as a crystalline bright colour with golden highlights, Mahogany colour with a greenish hue. Exuberant and intense aroma. Balsamic notes, spices and nuts. We can also find highlight aromas of candied fruit, vanilla and walnut shell. The palate is concentrated, medium sweet, very round, with a long aftertaste leaving notes of spices, dried fruits and exotic woods.

It is a superb accompaniment to desserts, especially fruit cakes, apple crumble or pecan pie and hard paste cheeses.

John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

Sercial is the name of a white grape grown in Portugal, especially on the island of Madeira. It has given name to the dryest of the four classic varieties of Madeira fortified wine.

Recorked, rewaxed capsules. Labelled. Levels into neck Tasting note: Bottled 1997, recorked/rewaxed 2015. Closed nose, touch ethereal, sweet plums, zoet, opening up nice after half an hour in the glass. Soft medium rich taste, caramel in after taste. Intense powerful, very nice strength, old wood. Pronounced aftertaste of apple syrup with touch of acidity peeking through the sweet fruit. Nice balance and natural concentration from long cask aging.
