Blandys, 1920
Bual, Madeira Damaged Stencil
The 1920 Bual is one of Blandy’s most iconic Madeira wines. The nose is complex and intense, revealing dry fruits, exotic spices, vanilla, followed by some smoky notes, cedar oil and balsamic. On the palate, it is concentrated and powerful, with a medium sweet character. Very well-balanced and smooth, its leaves a long aftertaste, with hints of tobacco, exotic woods, cedar oil and beeswax.

Madeira, 1912
MBV - Boal - Bottled by Barbeito
This is a rare and very limited release of the 1912 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1912 Boal is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

Blandys, 1911
Bual, Madeira
Madeira Bual is typically sweeter than Madeira Sercial or Madeira Verdelho, but not quite as intensely sweet as Malmsey. You should expect a light mahogany/copper coloured wine with aromas of maple syrup, roasted walnut notes and hints of coffee. On the palate its high acidity will create a much needed balance against the sweetness making the sugar barely noticeable. Flavours of figs, vanilla and caramel should dominate the palate and the wine should finish off long with caramelised citrus notes.

Madeira, 1910
Barbeito bottled - Sercial
94 Points - Neal Martin - The Wine Advocate: "The 1910 Sercial has a tightly coiled bouquet with notes of walnut, nutmeg, white pepper and dried quince that demonstrates great clarity. The aromas become increasingly spicy in the glass, but never volatile. The palate is silky smooth, with laser-like acidity that slices through copious layers of dried honey, lemongrass, sour lemon, cumin and a touch of fennel. It has superb weight and presence, almost searing in sharpness towards the finish. This is an untamed, compelling Sercial."

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1908
Boal, Madeira
*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***
"The 1908 Boal Reserva from D’Oliveiras is an unctuous, full-bodied wine loaded with dark maple syrup, tar, leather, licorice and sweet baking spices. There is superb density here and the wine shows terrific length in an intense style. The finish is long, bright and sweet." The Wine Advocate
Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name, situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North African coast. This sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese. Madeira is the Portuguese word for wood or timber.
This sweet, amber-tinged Madeira, has keen acidity and a long and mellow finish, with a certain delicacy. …

Madeira, 1906
Leacock's - Malvasia, Madeira
John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

"What an intense wine. Fabulous bouquet of rich, sumptuous caramel. There’s some sweetness here, but rapierlike acidity is underneath.” Wine Spectator

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1903
Boal, Madeira
D’Oliveiras is one of the more classic Madeira shippers, and one of the few to survive from the pre-Phylloxera era. The Bastardo grape barely survived Phylloxera and basically disappeared from Maderia. Its excellent acidity supports this wine. Perfumed black walnut and green figs present on a seductive, drying palate. Bottled in 2006. "Matured in Adegas do Torreao and bottled in 2006, the Bastardo '27 has a refined, quite reticent bouquet with notes of dried honey, creme brulee and scorched earth... The palate is very elegant and harmonious, the breeding of this almost extinct grape variety really showing through. …

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1895
Malvasia Madeira
*** 91 Points Wine Advocate ***
"The 1895 Malvasia has an attractive bouquet with notes of orange peel, nougat, marmalade and walnut with noticeable volatility that detracts from its precision. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely spicy entry with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper and shaved ginger. It shows good substance and length, though I detect just a little dryness creeping in on the over-powering finish." The Wine Advocate
Madeira is an extremely rare wine to find being a unique wine produced in the Madeira island. Madeira Island has volcanic soil and sub-tropical climate …

Madeira, 1895
Araujo - Malvasia - bott. Barbeito, Madeira
This is a rare and limited release of the 1895 Madeira from the Araujo family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1895 Malvasia is very sweet as one would expect from this style of Madeira. The Malvasia grapes which produce Malmsey are typically grown in warm coastal locations at low altitude, particularly at Câmara de Lobos, whose name (meaning 'the chamber of wolves') belies its status as a peaceful fishing village. The grape variety retains its acidity as it develops sugar, and as a consequence, Madeira Malvasia wines are some of the most long-lived in the world. …
