Description
A fabulous wine and port gift from the exceptional 2007 vintage. Both the Chateau d'Angludet and the Cockburns have been highly rated by Robert Parker, Wine Advocat being given 87 and 92 points respectively.
Chateau d'Angludet - "...reveals attractive floral, black cherry, blueberry, licorice, and asphalt characteristics in its medium-bodied, ripe, round, elegant personality. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years." Parker, Wine Advocate 2010
Cockburn Vintage Port - The Cockburn's Vintage 2007 was mainly sourced from Quinta dos Canais. The Touriga Nacional from this fantastic vineyard was of exceptional quality.
The grapes, picked late (23rd September) and in perfect weather conditions, were at ideal maturity and produced very robust and attractive wines. The blend therefore incorporated 45% of this variety. The other major contributor was the Touriga Franca, also from Canais, which was harvested considerably later on 5th October and benefitted from wonderful warm weather throughout the month of September. The perfect condition and maturity of this variety imparts magnificent floral characters to the blend. This variety composed 40% of this vintage. Finally, and to add extra complexity, the balance was made up of an extremely intense blend of grapes from the very old vineyards of Quinta das Amendoeiras close to Canais. This combination of grape varieties resulted in a very intense and tannic rich wine forming a firm and solid base to this magnificent vintage.Appearance: Very intense purple.Nose: Lovely aromas of violets.Palate: Rich cassis flavours dominate the palate.Finish: Typically dry and elegant Cockburn's finish. This vintage will be recorded as one of Cockburn's finest due to its great complexity of flavours, balance and rich tannins. The depth of this wine will ensure a long and perfect ageing potential.
Reviews: The 2007 Cockburn Vintage Port offers aromas of fruitcake, liquorice, mineral, and black cherry. It is a bit more forward and elegant than its sibling with layers of flavour, outstanding focus, and impeccable balance. It is likely to be approachable a bit sooner but it, too, should still be performing well at age 30. Jay miller Wine Advocate.
