Description

Quinta do Arnozelo
The vineyard of Quinta do Arnozelo is situated on the southern bank of the Douro river, between the small towns of São João da Pesqueira and Vila Nova de Foz Côa. This is in the prestigious upper reaches of the Douro demarcated wine region, the aptly named Douro Superior. In addition to its favourable geographic location, it has an ideal micro-climate, both of which contribute to the superior quality of its grapes and other produce. The vineyard has 200ha, comprised of vines, olive trees, orange trees and forest (which harbours a large variety of the region’s species).

2020 Vintage
The Burmester Vintage Port 2020 is loaded with character and enormous ageing potential. From a fully declared year, this port is a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, this is warm, lightly textured with minerality and touched by toastiness. The tannins are soft, already well integrated with the floral black fruits.

Grape Varieties
Touriga Nacional (50%) and Touriga Franca (50%), from vines more than 25 years old from Quinta do Arnozelo, Douro Superior.

Reviews

*** 92 Points- Mark Squires- Wine Advocate.***

The 2020 Vintage Port is a 46/40 blend of Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional (with Tinta Roriz and, for the first time, Alicante Bouschet for the rest) coming in with 104 grams of residual sugar. It was bottled in May 2022 after wood aging. Showing more depth and power than its sibling, the Barros, it's still a mid-level offering, not a powerhouse. It is also moderate in concentration, but there is an overlay of seriousness here that makes this very appealing. The nuanced finish with herbs and blackberries promises complexity to come. This has some upside potential in the cellar, as well as tasting great. Let's lean up for the moment. It's not too rustic, so you can dive in early, but holding it a decade will prove helpful.
