Description

Burmester have declared a 2021 Quinta Do Arnozelo Vintage Port made from their best grapes from the harvest. In a vintage that was affected by a pandemic and rains during the harvest, the IWC award winning wine maker Carlos Alves, has worked his magic to produce a wine that has amazing structure, power and intensity yet has the finesse and elegance typical of the vintage. We are delighted to exclusively offer Burmester Quinta do Arnozelo 2021 Vintage Port.

The vineyard of Quinta do Arnozelo is situated on the southern bank of the Douro river, between the small towns of São João da Pesqueira and Vila Nova de Foz Côa. This is in the prestigious upper reaches of the Douro demarcated wine region, the aptly named Douro Superior. In addition to its favourable geographic location, it has an ideal micro-climate, both of which contribute to the superior quality of its grapes and other produce. The vineyard has 200ha, comprised of vines, olive trees, orange trees and forest (which harbours a large variety of the region’s species).

Carlos Alves, head winemaker at Sogevinous said ““The 2021 campaign was defined by the irregular pace of grape maturation, which resulted in low levels of sugar, inducing our winemaking and viticulture teams to work closely with the aim to determine the exact optimum picking dates – an increasingly critical factor in the final quality of the wines. Although this harvest was a difficult one, we are pleased with the wines it's produced and so far I think the wines will stand out for their elegance rather than structure, and they will certainly age beautifully given their natural acidity – both traits that qualify for excellent wines,”
