Description

Messias Vinho Verde, which directly translates to “green wine,” perfectly captures the styles of wines that are produced in the area. With mostly youthful, vibrant wines, this DOC is responsible for some of Portugal’s best wines.

With a refreshing spritz and low alcohol (only 8.5%!) this Vinho Verde from Messias is food friendly, easy drinking and would find a fitting space in any lunch table or can simply be enjoyed as an aperitif throughout the day. In the glass it reveals a pale lemon colour with green highlights whilst on the nose it displays fresh aromas of lime, green citrus fruit, pear and apple. On the palate it is crisp and fruity with refreshing acidity and persistent citrus notes. Fresh and moreish without the guilt tag, it can be enjoyed with tapas, seafood, salads, and, surprisingly pizza, but moreover it can be a component to a long drink by adding some soda, fresh mint and a slice of lemon.

Messias was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who served as chairman until 1973. The management is still held by the descendants of the Messias family. Since its foundation, the company has been producing and selling high quality wines from the main demarcated regions: Bairrada, Douro, Dão, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Vinho do Porto. Messias is based in Mealhada, a small city in central Portugal, in the heart of Bairrada region. Here the company has approximately 160 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the few groups which produces and sells a complete range of wines and spirits from the finest Portuguese regions as well as its own estates.
