Description

A lovely LBV gift selection from the outstanding 2011 vintage in the Douro. This style of Port bridges the gap between the younger, fruitier Ruby Ports and the more complex, vintage Ports which require many years ageing. It is comprising of a bottle of Krohn, an unfiltered LBV on the traditional side that will need decanting and the Taylor's a modern style LBV which is ready to pop and pour.

Reviews:

2011 Wiese & Krohn Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port
Deep ruby colour with upfront aromas of black plums, spice and dried herbs, firm and evident tannins and a rich, long finish. The generous plummy characters, freshness and pure berry fruit characterise Krohn LBV.
The current bottling of Krohn Late Bottled Vintage Port 2011 was bottled in 2016. It was bottled unfiltered, a style of LBV that can develop in the bottle with ageing. It will produce a “crust” or sediment, so it is best to decant this style. The lack of filtration makes this port vegan and vegetarian friendly.

2011 Taylor's Late Bottled Vintage
Intense purple ruby colour. Pungent aromatic nose with heaps of black woodland fruit, dark cherry and plum. Lovely clean, crisp freshness to the bouquet. The palate is rounded, smooth and perfectly balanced. Flavours of redcurrant, raspberry and blueberry in abundance, with a delicious hint of black liquorice; wonderful purity of fruit. In true Taylor style, the wine is very well structured with big firm tannins that hold the wine nicely together. The finish is wonderfully long. Invented by Taylor's in 1970, this LBV style is increasingly popular, as it is ready to drink and does not require decanting.
