Description

Our wine buyer has put together a fabulous selection of Ports. We take pride in visiting and working with small producers to import outstanding ports so that we can offer them at great prices. This selection of Ports is an expression of that philosophy and features four producers that we have been working with over the last 12 months.

Reserve Tawny Port by Sao Leonardo (Quinta do Mourao)
Organic Reserve Ruby Port by Quevedo
10 Year Old White Port by Quinta do Devesa
2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port from Palmer
2011 Colheita port from Burmester
2002 Vintage Port from Barros

Reserve Tawny Port by Sao Leonardo (Quinta do Mourao)
We recently Quinta do Mourão, a family project focused on producing high-quality premium Ports to our Portfolio. Their "entry level" Tawny has rich caramel burnt sugar and cedar notes on the nose. Smooth vanilla and caramel on the palate with amazing acidity and complexity. Bright acidity on the very long finish

Organic Reserve Ruby Port by Quevedo
We have now been working with Oscar and Claudia Quevedo for over five years and no line up would be complete without one of their fabulous Ports. We have chosen the Organic Reserve Ruby as the quality of the fruit coming from their organic vineyard is what makes this Port so delicious. This Port bursts with black fruit flavours, intense and pure, enriched with spice and dark chocolate notes.

10 Year Old White Port by Quinta do Devesa
We started working with Quinta da Devesa, a small family-owned winery because of their reputation for white Ports. The NV 10 Years White Port was bottled in 2020 with 114 grams of residual sugar and a bar-top cork. Not showing anywhere near as sweet as the residual sugar statistics would suggest, this does still seem very rich. It is not a style that is as bright and lively as some, but there is more intensity of flavor than most. It has bitter chocolate and caramel nuances, sometimes seeming more Tawny-like. It adds some grip on the finish.

2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port from Palmer
Palmer is the premium brand of Barao de Vilar, a family whose history goes back to the dawn of Port making. We selected the unfiltered 2017 LBV for the pack as it represents great quality vs value. Slightly drier than the English style LBV's the Palmer is a blend of full, rich and fruity wines of a single year which has been specially chosen for ageing from 4 to 6 years in oak casks prior to bottling. The grapes were foot trodden in granite lagares and stored in large oak vats called tonels. Tasting Notes: This LBV Port is deep in colour, violet, dark red and purple. Very good concentration of mature dark red fruit aromas, with a very typical predominance and blackberries, black cherries, plums’ jam and cassis. Elegant and smooth,

2011 Colheita Port from Burmester
We have been exclusively importing Burmester into the UK since 2016. It enjoys a reputation as the premium brand from the Sogevinous stable and so we selected the 2011 Colheita. 2011 produced some of the best Ports of the 21st Century and this Colheita from 2011 has a complex nose with dark berries, cress, coffee . Full-bodied and great balance. Smooth palate that reflects the nose. Very good length

2002 Vintage Port from Barros
For the vintage Port selection we needed something with a little age to showcase how vintage Ports develop over time without blowing our budget. We turned to the 21 year old vintage Port (2002 Vintage) from Barros. This Port has a 95% opaque centre, just starting to change colour on the rim. Lovely and open on the nose, softly fruity. Silky texture on the palate with lovely fruit and a good balance. The flavours and complexity grows really well with violets all over the palate. A lingering aftertaste and finish which is full of slightly spicy red licorice.
