Bordeaux: The finest 2007s tend to be dark ruby-coloured with purple highlights, sweet, ripe berry fruit similar to black cherries and black currants, medium body, silky tannins, low acidity, and pure, round, charming personalities with good equilibrium. By and large, the wines lack density, structure, and serious long-term aging potential. Most will be drinkable as soon as they are bottled (actually, many are so precocious, they could have been gulped down as barrel samples), and should age surprisingly well for 10-15 years. Truthfully, most consumers will probably love the style of the vintage’s top wines because they are so flattering, seductive, and fruit-forward.
Port: 2007 is the first widely declared Port vintage since 2003. Virtually every Port house that matters made a Vintage Port attesting to the quality of the year. The growing season was preceded by a wet winter which put plenty of moisture back into the soil after a lengthy period of dry conditions. Summer temperatures were relatively mild (unlike the torrid conditions in 2003, the last previous declared vintage). September and October weather was close to ideal so that the grapes enjoyed a lengthy hang-time under excellent conditions with full ripening of Turiga Francesa and Turiga Nacional, the two most important grape varieties.
Reception for the vintage appears to be strong. The quantities produced are small, so there is a high demand for them, and there is simply no substitute for a great bottle of Vintage Port. There is little doubt that 2007 is a high class vintage.

Coffee, lavender and rose add complexity to the intense blackberry nose; on the palate the Churchill is a bold and powerful wine with the floral notes continuing through to the marmalade spiked bramble fruit. Fresh acidity and grippy tannins give massive structure - this is a wine for the long term.
Reviews: "The 2007 Churchill Vintage Port offers up an expressive fragrance of blueberry compote and fruitcake. Residing in the background providing additional complexity are notes of violets, clove, and incense. This leads to a firm, structured, muscular Port with plenty of fruit for balance. …

93/100 (Outstanding) Wine Journal
"There is a nice limpidity on this Croft 2007. It is not the power that strikes you but the purity with black cherries, liquorices, violets and a hint of iodine. Very tight and focused. The palate is full-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, pure blackberry, raspberry, white pepper and Asian spice towards the finish. Very fine focus, very pure and harmonious. Sensuous finish but it just tapers away when I need more grip and assertiveness. Still, this is a lovely Croft." Neil Martin , Wine Journal

Reviews: "The 2007 Fonseca Vintage Port is opaque purple-colored with a high-class perfume of lavender, Asian spices, pencil lead, incense, and an amalgam of black fruits. On the palate it is voluminous with layered, succulent fruit, outstanding density, and excellent integration of tannin, acidity, and alcohol. The long finish and the wine’s impeccable balance suggest a lengthy evolution and a drinking window extending out to 2045. " Jay Miller, Wine Advocate.

Vintage port
An attractive floral nose, with brambly black fruit and hints of cloves and cigar box. The palate is concentrated, dense and sweet, with balancing acidity and a surprisingly ascetic tannic structure to underline seriousness of intent and to underwrite potential and longevity.

Dark crimson. Pruney, superripe nose. Very very flattering and ripe and sumptuous - almost like a syrup! Thick and rich. This should wow lots of tasters in the early to mid term. Fine tannins tucked in on the finish. Not hot at all - really quite impressive.

"The 2007 Warre Vintage Port is one of the stars of the vintage. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays an expressive bouquet of Asian spices, incense, lavender, blackberry, and fruitcake. Plush on the palate with outstanding volume, it exhibits a sense of elegance as well as power. Savory flavors, plenty of structure for the long haul, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish suggests two decades of cellaring are in order. This superb effort should still be drinking well in 2050." Pierre Rovani Wine Advocate.
"A little mute to begin but with a fair bit of swirling reveals notes of mincemeat pie, dried plums and dark chocolate plus some meaty / gamey aromas. …
