1958 Wine and Port Vintage

Italian: 1958 was a good year for Italian heavyweights such as Barolo and Brunello. which were built to last. Well stored examples of 1958 wines still make very good drinking today.

Vintage Port: 1958 ports represent a good year with some fragrant and
delicate Vintage Ports, despite the rather
damp weather conditions throughout.
Declared by some but not all the major
Port houses.

1958 Porto Valriz, 1958

Single Harvest/ Colheita Port
Special Offer | Was £225 | Now £149

*** Silver medal - Wine Masters Challenge World Wine Contest Estoril ***

*** Gold Medal - International Wine Concourse - Oporto ***

This excellent port from the 1958 Harvest was matured in old casks before bottling in 1984. This will now keep in the bottle for at least another 20 years.

The 1958 Valriz Colheita Port displays very complex aromas of fine spices coming from the extended ageing in casks. It is a wine, that by its age deserves to be "waited for" in the glass so that it can demonstrate its complexity, both in terms of aroma and palate. With nearly 60 years of age this true rarity deserves respect.

Barolo, 1958

Villadoria - Riserva Speciale

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Chateau Latour, 1958

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

The wine of Latour is an example of regularity, no matter the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth, it requires a long aging to reveal all its potential, its power and extraordinary wealth. Perfectly ripe grapes produce a very impressive wine with an incredible bouquet of cassis, hazelnut and leather. A monumental wine.

Graham Port, 1958

Malvedos Vintage Port MAGNUM (Crusted)

This is a very rare Magnum bottle of Grahams Malvedos. (Grahams used to label SQVP as Crusted).

Reviews
"The 1958 was the run-away favourite of a vertical of 17 vintages of Quinta dos Malvedos. It was extraordinary, virtually water clear with a pale pink tinge in the center of the wine but with a fantastic complex rich and deep floral nose and a huge rich full flavour on the palate. Really delicious with all the pepper & spice of a full bodied vintage port. Lovely mature flavours with almost a hint of that transition from vintage flavours to the caramel tones of an old tawny. I don’t remember the last time I tasted this wine and it was a total revelation.

Madeira, 1958

MBV - Boal - Bottled by Barbeito

This is a rare and limited release of the 1958 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1958 Boal is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.
