1967 Vintage Report

Italian: 1967 Italian Wines represent an outstanding vintage which was probably the best of the decade. Good growing conditions particularly in Tuscany and Piedmont produced rich, full bodied wines that will last for many years to come.

Bordeaux: The 1967 wine vintage is generally considered to be a good, solid vintage that favoured the vineyards in regions that harvested early such as Pomerol, Graves and St Emilion. The 1967 wines will not improve further with age and are still very drinkable and pleasant.

Vintage Port: Very few port vintages were produced in 1967 but some houses declared. The best ports show good structure and elegant fruit and will keep for many years to come.

Messias Port, 1967

Colheita Single Harvest Tawny Port including Leather Effect box.

*** 95 Points Robert Parker ***

The Messias colheita port from the outstanding 1967 vintage has been aged in a barrel until bottling this year.

Reviews:
The 1967 Colheita Port, a blend from old vines coming in with 149 grams per liter of residual sugar, is the latest in the winery's releases of old tawnies. The winery says that the "harvest was perfect with hot days and fresh nights... The wine had a good balance with acidity as a result and then matured for 45 years in Vila Nova de Gaia." This is super. Lively and elegant, it has wonderful concentration of old-tawny flavors on the finish: heavy molasses mingled with caramel and laced with a hint of treacle.

Barolo, 1967

Terre del Barolo - Riserva Speciale (MAGNUM)

Please note that this is a rare Magnum Format and will not fit in a standard gift box.

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Barolo, 1967

Michele Mascarello Rochetta, La Morra - Riserva

**92 Points cellar Tracker ***

"Very light brownish ruby. Cloudy, almost milky in appearance. Initially notes of madeirization on the nose, but with air pretty cinammon and baking spice dominated aromas emerged. On the palate, a nice core of sweet cherry fruit surrounded by the cinammon and spice, with an incredibly silky texture. One of the few older barolos I've had where the palate far exceeded the nose. Gorgeous."

Barolo, 1967

Moscone, Serralunga D'Alba

A typical aged Barolo will exhibit a garnet colour, powerful structure, firm tannins and high levels of acidity and alcohol. They are also characterised by their unmistakable aromas of tar and roses. Made from pure Nebbiolo, Barolo is required to spend at least three years ageing, of which two must be spent in wood and one in bottle.
