1967 Vintage Report

Italian: 1967-vintage-port1967 Italian Wines represent an outstanding vintage which was probably the best of the decade. Good growing conditions particularly in Tuscany and Piedmont produced rich, full bodied wines that will last for many years to come.

Bordeaux: The 1967 wine vintage is generally considered to be a good, solid vintage that favoured the vineyards in regions that harvested early such as Pomerol, Graves and St Emilion. The 1967 wines will not improve further with age and are still very drinkable and pleasant.

Vintage Port: The 1967 port vintage is a very good vintage that was somewhat overshadowed by the exceptional 1966 vintage. It was declared by about 15 shippers - some of whom (Martinez and Cockburn) declared the 1967 in preference to the 1967 vintage. Noval and a few others declared both whilst most of the English shippers elected to produce single quinta ports. The 1967 ports showed well at recent tastings, they have good structure and elegant fruit and will keep for many years to come.

*** 95 Points Robert Parker ***

The Messias colheita port from the outstanding 1967 vintage has been aged in a barrel until bottling in 2015.

Reviews:
The 1967 Colheita Port, a blend from old vines coming in with 149 grams per liter of residual sugar, is the latest in the winery's releases of old tawnies. The winery says that the "harvest was perfect with hot days and fresh nights... The wine had a good balance with acidity as a result and then matured for 45 years in Vila Nova de Gaia." This is super. Lively and elegant, it has a wonderful concentration of old-tawny flavours on the finish: heavy molasses mingled with caramel and laced with a hint of treacle.

Chateau Latour only selects grapes from the 47 hectares which surround the Château Latour, the heart of the estate to make the ""Grand Vin de Château Latour.

Reviews
"Unquestionably the best wine produced in the Medoc in 1967, the Latour has dark ruby color with some browning at the edges, a medium- to full-bodied feel, plenty of black currant fruit, and some light, soft tannins still present. Head and shoulders above the other first-growths, this wine has the classic Latour bouquet of black walnuts, black currants, mineral scents, and cedarwood. " Robert Parker Bordeaux 3rd Ed.

Chateau Phelan Segur, 1967

St Estephe, Cru Grand Bourgeois Exceptional (HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl)

Please notice that this is a half bottle 37.5cl.

Colour is darker than expected with very little bricking. Nose shows clear signs of age and let's you know it is no longer at peak but after a few minutes of air exposure, it comes together nicely. Classic wet tobacco and ash notes on the nose. Medium body but full attack with bright acidity and even though both fruit and tannins have receded, there's still some sweetness. It really penetrates your tastebuds. More tertiary notes of forest floor, game, wet leather, tobacco and cigar box. Finish is pleasant.

Chateau Yquem, 1967

Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe

*** 96 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"Based solely on the strength of what is unquestionably a great Yquem, many have concluded that 1967 was a superb vintage for Sauternes. The truth is that 1967 was a very good but irregular vintage. As for Yquem, it is close to perfection. Medium amber/golden with a full intensity bouquet of vanillin spice, honey, ripe pineapples, and coconut, this intense, very ripe, unctuous Yquem has layers of sweet, opulent fruit, excellent balance, and a hefty, powerful finish. Almost too big and rich to be served with food, this wine should be drunk alone as a dessert.
