Sale

Vintage Port
Excellent provenance | Calem Library Stock
Special offer | Was £119 | Now £79.95

The Calem 1994 Vintage Port has been stored in the Calem cellars and released in 2020.

The 1994 Calem Vintage Port has a deep garnet colour, with a hint of blue in the meniscus. Black fruits and blackberries dominate on the nose with tobacco and spirits. Beautiful in the mouth with alcohol and resolved tannins, great fruit still dominates. Lovely finish. 92/100 TC VWP 11/19

Vivino review:
It has a dense, even, opaque crimson colour, with a very rich, dark well of black fruit and floral aromas, with all sorts of mineral and delicately spicy nuances. On the palate this has a beautifully focused sweetness, with a supple, svelte quality of black fruits, that is pure and very long and silky through the mid palate.

Chateau de Fargues, 1994

Sauternes

Château de Fargues imposes itself on the senses and arouses curiosity. The sweetness of the spring flowers is expressed on your taste buds, accompanied by subtle aromas of candied fruit, pineapple or figs, a few tips of quince paste or sun-drenched apricots. You perceive the roasted flavours, the vanilla, spicy, saffron, star anise and also dried fruits. Added to this are enveloping notes of acacia honey, toasted bread, balanced by citrus zest and mineral touches. The wine of Fargues will never cease to challenge and stimulate you. Chateau Latour a Pomerol, 1994

Pomerol
91 Points Wine Spectator

The 1994 Latour a Pomerol is a wine to be aged., it can nevertheless be enjoyed fairly young. A magnificent wine that combines richness, concentration and elegance.

Comprising two plots with different distinctive locations and soil types, Latour à Pomerol is one of the best wines in the appellation in great vintages such as 1947, 1961 or 1970. The 1961 received Robert Parker's ultimate score of 100/100. Its finesse and rich substance is not unlike the best wines of Pomerol.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1994

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

The 1994 Chateau Lynch-Bages reveals a lovely perfumed nose of red fruit, cassis, cedar and graphite. On the palate, the fruit is round and ripe with a long balanced finish. A great wine in its own right and a pleasure to drink now.

If any château in all of the classified growths consistently outperforms its original status, it is Lynch Bages. Indeed, this château has long been prized by Pauillac lovers who seek good value, yet well made wine. The property is situated just outside the quiet village of Pauillac north of Latour and Pichon Lalande. It is run by the very capable and amiable Jean-Charles Cazes who took over from his father Jean-Michel Cazes in 2006.

Chateau Palmer, 1994

Margaux 3me Cru Classe

Palmer's 1994 is a successful wine for the vintage. The large Merlot component gives the wine a silky texture, and an up-front, sweet, black-cherry and plum-scented nose with toasty oak and floral scents. Medium-bodied, round, and nicely concentrated, this charming, elegant wine is well-proportioned and harmonious. Neither acidity, tannin, nor alcohol stand out in this well-balanced 1994.

Churchill's Port

30 Year Old tawny port
50cl bottle

Churchill's 30 Years Old Tawny Port is an expression of Douro terroir, combined with delicate ageing in seasoned oak casks. The result of this combination is a port full of finesse that retains Churchill's characteristic fresh identity.

Compared to other Port Wine shippers, most of which were established around the turn of the18th/19th centuries, Churchill’s history is short. Johnny Graham founded Churchill’s, (named after his wife’s maiden name) in 1981, making it the first British port company to be established in fifty years. The grapes are hand-picked and processed into ancient granite lagares, where they are trodden by foot while fermentation naturally occurs.

Reviews
"Deep garnet colour. The nose is just beginning to evolve into musky, dried plum and raisin aromas with whiffs of tree bark, nutmeg, cumin and cloves. The palate is seriously big and voluptuous with medium to high acidity and a medium to firm level of fine tannins. Very long finish." In Asia.

"The massive 1994 is unquestionably the finest Dow I have tasted since the 1977. This opaque purple-colored wine is not as developed or flamboyant as Fonseca, but it is super-concentrated and multi-layered, with huge masses of fruit and some tannin in the finish.

Fonseca Port, 1994

Vintage Port

*** 97 Points - Parker ***

reviews: "One of the most spectacular 1994s, this opaque purple-colored wine is an exotic, flamboyant, ostentatious port. Extremely fragrant and pungent, with a flashy display of jammy cassis, pepper, licorice, and truffles, this port is an attention-grabber. Awesomely rich, and full-bodied, with superb length, richness, and overall balance, it possesses a huge mid-palate, layers of flavor, an unctuous texture, and a blockbuster finish. Everything is in place, with the brandy and tannin well-integrated, even concealed by the masses of fruit and glycerin. This wine will drink fabulously well at age ten, but keep for up to thirty years".

Graham's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996

Inferno, 1994

Nino Negri

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.

Quinta do Passadouro, 1994

Quinta do Passadouro, Vintage Port

In the nose a lot of alcohol. It has a powerful nose but it’s not very complex. Liquorice, dark fruit, dark chocolate. There is also an amaretto cookie element coming through which is quite nice.
Taste: A creamy velvet texture. At the start a lot of freshness which is followed up very quickly with a lot of alcohol that attacks the palate. Dried fruit, some liquorice, and a really nice acidity.
