Chateau Poujeaux, 2014

Moulis (Medoc) Cru Grand Bourgeois

The 2014 Poujeaux is a subtle blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. These grape-varieties wonderfully express on this late harvest wine, in Moulis as well as in other Medoc municipalities. The 2014 Moulis of Chateau Poujeaux offers an expressive, delicate and complex nose. The latter gives off intense black fruit and Morello cherry aromas, but also more floral notes. On the palate, the attack is supple, the wine is dense and the tannins are silky. The 2014 Poujeaux drinks well thanks to great complexity, good finesse and good persistence. This Moulis is a classic.

Chateau Haut-Bages Liberal, 2012

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification

From the excellent 2012 vintage, this has a typically rounded, almost voluptuous bouquet that is so typical of the growing season, with notes of wild strawberry, tobacco and a touch of hot Bovril. The palate has a rounded entry, the once hard tannin now softened and savoury towards the finish.

Chateau Batailley, 2011

Pauillac, 5th Growth Classification

Brilliant, vibrant, with an almost electric precision on both the nose and palate, Ch. Batailley’s 2011 is delicious, even in its youth. It has poise and elegance with lovely fresh blackcurrants on the nose and fine raspberry and blackberry fruit on the palate, mingling harmoniously with an earthy minerality. One to cellar.

Chateau Cantemerle, 2011

Haut Medoc 5th Growth

This is a very good fifth growth from a great 2011 vintage. Beautiful deep inky colour that is opaque against light. Easy drinking with early notes to graphite and chalk. It opens up nicely in the glass. It appears to me to be in the opening stage of the decades long drinking window.

Chateau Leoville Poyferre, 2011

Pavilion de Leoville Poyferre, St Julien, 2nd Wine of Chateau Leoville Poyferre

Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is the 2nd wine of Château Léoville Poyferré, which was recognized as a Second Classified Growth in 1855. Château Léoville Poyferré has been owned and run by Cuvelier family since 1920. The arrival of Didier Cuvelieur at the head of the property in 1979, hailed a new era for the success of the domain and the restoration of Léoville Poyferré to its rightful rank among the great Médoc wines.

Elegant and distinguished, the color is deep and brilliant. It is rich with aromas of blackcurrant and toasted oak. The mouth is fruity with a very solid and persistent structure.

Chateau Montrose, 2011

St Estephe Second Grand Cru classé

*** 89 + Points Robert Parker ***

The dark ruby/purple-coloured, slightly austere and angular 2011 Montrose possesses a more masculine style with firm tannin, medium body, and cassis, black currant and earth notes. The wine tails off slightly on the palate leaving an acidic, tangy character. It will benefit from several more years of cellaring, and should last for 15+ years thereafter. Chateau Branaire-Ducru, 2010

St Julien, 4th Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert Parker ***

The 2010 Branaire-Ducru displays an inky bluish purple color and loads of mulberry, raspberry, black currant, graphite and floral notes in its intense aromatics. Medium to full-bodied , with sensational ripeness, purity, texture and length, the tannins are slightly more prominent than I remember from barrel, but they are sweet and ripe (as opposed to astringent and bitter). This beautiful wine needs 4-6 years of cellaring and should keep 25-30 years.

Chateau du Tertre, 2010

Margaux

***90 Points- Robert Parker***

Showing better from bottle than from barrel (which makes sense, given that I seemed to be in a minority when judging it from barrel), the 2010 du Tertre has a nice dark plum/garnet color, a slightly more evolved style than most Margaux, hints of cedar, licorice, black olive and black currant fruit with some flowers and subtle smoky wood in the background. Medium to full-bodied, round, generous and ripe, the words “sexy” and “opulent” come to mind when smelling and tasting this beautiful Margaux.

Chateau Sociando Mallet, 2010

Medoc Cru Grand Bourgeois

Sumptuous, sophisticated and sexy! This wine has a glorious, flamboyant nose of deep cassis and creamy oak and it is plump and juicy on the palate with a huge, long finish.

DECANTER - Great depth of fruit, deep ripeness and resonant flavours, fine texture and vigour, very good future.
(Steven Spurrier – Decanter – Apr 2011)

JANCIS - The 2010 Ch Sociando Mallet is lively and racy and with more than a hint of young oak! Sweet start and very polished palate. Chewy finish but with lots and lots of sweet fruit. Well done! Quite luscious, very like a fine St-Estèphe.

Clos Manou, 2010

Medoc

The 2010 Clos Manou is Dark red, impressively big, yet structured, energetic but not overly acidic and rather sophisticated for a Medoc A. C. Nose of milk chocolate, sour cherry, smoke, and a bit of herbs. Steely feel on the tip of the tongue that morphs into harsh yet fine-grained astringency. On mid-palate, there's enough sweetness and black fruit, lots of cassis, spice, blackberries, tobacco and earth. The acidity makes for a mouth-watering finish that lingers for quite a while.
Please decant for 2-3 hours upon opening.

Domaine de Chevalier, 2010

Graves Pessac-Leogan

This deeply coloured, concentrated and firmly structured wine will just begin to stretch its legs by 2017, so try to resist opening your bottles until this time. Then let the wine breathe in a decanter for a couple of hours before serving. Enjoy this wine with simple red meat dishes or mature cheeses when young, and with game and sauced meats when it is more mature.

The world-renowned American wine writer Robert Parker describes Domaine de Chevalier as "a true connoisseur's wine" and adds "the production is tiny and the wines are amongst the most highly sought-after of Pessac-Léognan". He writes of this vintage's offering: "Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt along with owner Olivier Bernard have done a fabulous job over recent years .

Chateau Guiraud, 2009

Sauternes HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl

The 2009 Guiraud is very tight on the nose, taking time to unfurl, with notes of apricot, peach, a touch of honeysuckle and quince. Good definition. The palate is impressive. tightly coiled, honeyed fruit, very fine acidity, linear at first then fanning out across the finish with notes of dried apricot, nectarine, a touch of almond and a faint hint of spice. With good length and unctuous on the finish, this Guiraud is impossible to ignore. Drink from 2015 to 2030+

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 99+ Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
The main reason the 2009 Lafite Rothschild did not receive a perfect score is because the wine has closed down slightly, but it is unquestionably another profound Lafite, their greatest wine since the amazing 2003. Among the most powerful Lafites ever made (it came in at 13.59% alcohol), the final blend was 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The selection was incredibly severe with only 45% of the crop being utilized. A tight, but potentially gorgeous nose of graphite, black currants, licorice and camphor is followed by a full-bodied wine revealing the classic elegance, purity and delineated style of Lafite.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

The wine has a very deep, almost black colour. The stylish and complex nose displays aromas of bilberry, blackcurrant and blonde tobacco that mingle with subtle cedarwood and spice notes. The same refinement and density are to be found on the palate with patrician, well-rounded tannins, revealing remarkable structure and balance right through to the long and opulent finish. A great success for a Mouton Rothschild that will undoubtedly get the utmost out of the exceptional qualities for which the 2009 vintage has already been hailed.

Tasting notes
The Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Mouton Rothschild has a striking label from Anish Kapoor.

Chateau Rieussec, 2009

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

***97 Points by Neil Martin -eRobertParker.com #205 Feb 2013***

The team at Chateau Rieussec have conjured a stellar wine in 2009. There is a little reduction at first that fortunately blows away, revealing thickly layered scents of honey, Danish pastry and quince that appear to gain vigor with every passing sip. The palate is stunning: very viscous in the mouth with tangy grapefruit, honey and white peach. It is still primal, but the acidity is perfectly judged and there is a life-affirming sense of precision and tension towards the finish. Exceptional. Drink now-2045.
