Description: Very aged on the nose, with dried fruits, plums and raisins wed to a dusty, earthy funkiness, some meaty notes, lovely spicy anise tones, plenty of flowers and a little peaty smoke. Not that much tar or roses, but there was a little whiff of dried Italian herbs at the edges. Palate was still very fresh, with lots of acid, and structured by firm, fine tannins. Very charming flavours here - lovely dried fruit, dried plums, dark cherries, a touch of raisins and plenty of orange peel. Finish was just starting to dry out a little, but still had a nice kumquat, plum and orange peel nuance to it, along with just that little hint of tar.

Description: From the very good 1969 Vintage. Colour is brick red with a light brown rim. The nose was packed and staked with tar, tobacco and roses. On the palate the wine still has plenty of fruit, a very nice sweetness and great balance. Amazing freshness for a wine this age combined with fine finish with plenty of stuffing. Drink from now until 2012

The medium garnet colour has held up quite well with some bricking on the rim, but otherwise this wine is still showing youth and it has the backbone for a long life ahead. Description: This wine, from the very good 1959 vintage, has a nose of roses and crushed berries. A rich palate with fresh cherries and good acidity. The finish even had a little tannin in it. Will continue to last for years to come. These have recently been released from the cellar of the Marchesi estate where they have been stored in ideal conditons.
