Description
The 1962 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port is a distinguished choice for lovers of mature Vintage Port, showing the house’s opulent style at full maturity. Silky, layered and beautifully resolved, it offers classic Douro richness with remarkable finesse. Best enjoyed now and over the next several years (well-stored bottles).
Tasting Notes:
Garnet-tawny core with a brick rim. An elegant, lifted nose of dried fig and date, orange zest, rose petal and mint/eucalyptus, with cedar, fine spice and cocoa. The palate is velvet-textured and medium-full, balancing sweet dried fruits with lively, citrus-lined acidity and fully resolved tannins. Long, graceful finish with walnut, toffee and a hint of dark chocolate.
Serving Tips & Storage Stand the bottle upright for 12–24 hours, then decant gently to remove sediment. Serve at 16–18 °C on its own, or pair with mature blue cheeses (Stilton, Roquefort), roasted nuts and high-cacao dark chocolate. Once opened, enjoy within 24–48 hours for peak expression. Store unopened bottles lying on their side in a cool, dark place away from vibration and heat.
Fonseca Guimaraens is bottled in years when Fonseca does not make a classic declaration, drawing on the same top quintas to deliver the house style with earlier approachability and excellent longevity. The 1962 exemplifies that mandate – generous fruit, aromatic lift and seamless ageing in bottle.
