Terms and Conditions

Vintage Wine and Port Ltd is an independent UK wine merchant specialising in vintage wine and Port gifts. If you have any questions about our wines or service please contact us at customercare@vintagewineandport.co.uk.

  • All wines are offered to UK customers as duty paid including taxes where applicable.
  • We never substitute products and will always deliver the exact bottle that you have ordered. If we are unable to supply the wine we will contact you to offer an alternative or issue a full refund.

Age Restriction

By placing an order with Vintage Wine and Port Ltd you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age. Our couriers operate an age-verified delivery service and may request proof of age upon delivery.

Purchasing Wine

Browse our catalogue and place items into the shopping cart. When you have finished your selection proceed to checkout where you will be asked for the information required to process the order.

Orders can also be placed by telephone and payment by cheque, BACS or bank transfer is available. We cannot deliver to PO boxes.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal. Payments are processed securely via Global IRIS. We do not store credit card details.

The contract for purchase becomes binding once the goods have been dispatched.

Condition of bottles: all bottles are stored in temperature and humidity controlled cellars. Due to their age some bottles may have labels that are stained, torn or faded. Wherever possible we describe bottle condition in the product listing.

Shipping and Handling

Delivery costs are displayed in the shopping basket and during checkout. UK delivery is free for orders over £100. Delivery charges include packaging and standard courier services.

International delivery is available to many countries. Shipping prices are calculated during checkout for quantities up to 12 bottles. For larger shipments we will provide a separate quotation.

International customers are responsible for any local import duties or taxes applied by their country.

As alcohol is being delivered, our couriers operate a signed-for delivery service and parcels must be received by a responsible adult.

If no one is available to receive the parcel our courier will attempt delivery again. If the parcel is returned to us we reserve the right to charge for redelivery.

Delivery Schedule

Standard deliveries are Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00. Saturday delivery is available as a premium service. Couriers do not deliver on Sundays or bank holidays.

Next working day delivery may not be available to Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands, islands or the Isle of Man. If additional courier charges apply we will contact you before dispatch.

Stock

All wines listed on our website are held in stock in our own cellars. Our inventory is live and updated regularly.

Tax Charges

Where applicable VAT is charged at the prevailing rate. Our UK VAT number appears on all invoices. Many wines are sold under the Global Margin Scheme and therefore no input VAT has been reclaimed.

Credit Card Security

All credit card transactions are processed via Global IRIS using SSL encryption technology. We do not store customer credit card information.

Guarantee

Vintage Wine and Port carefully sources and stores all wines in professional cellar conditions. However, due to the age and fragility of some bottles there is always a natural risk when opening older wines.

We therefore offer a 6-month bottle replacement guarantee from the date of delivery for wines that are found to be faulty.

  • If a wine is spoiled upon opening within six months of delivery we will offer a replacement bottle or a credit note.
  • Please notify us within 2 days of opening so that we may review the issue.
  • We may request that the bottle and remaining contents are returned to us for inspection.

Soft corks are not considered a fault. This is common in older wines where the cork has been in contact with the wine for many years.

Some wines may be excluded from the guarantee. These include bin-end clearance wines or very old bottles with low ullage. These wines will be clearly described as sold "as seen".

Opening Older Wines

Many of the wines we sell are several decades old. Over time natural corks gradually soften as they remain in contact with the wine. As a result, corks in older bottles can occasionally break when removed.

This is normal for mature wines and does not indicate a fault with the wine itself. In these situations we recommend gently removing the cork and pouring the wine through a small sieve or filter to remove any cork fragments.

The presence of sediment, fragile corks or slight variation between bottles is a natural characteristic of mature wines.
