Description
The Massolino Barbaresco DOCG 2022 Albesani is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from one of the most prestigious crus in Neive, Piedmont. Albesani is known for producing wines of elegance, precision, and fine structure, and Massolino’s interpretation is one of purity and classic balance, combining aromatic finesse with typical Barbaresco tension.
Tasting Notes:
The 2022 vintage is refined, floral, and mineral-driven. On the nose it shows red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, violet, and hints of lavender, orange peel, and crushed stone. There is also a subtle spicy and herbal background that adds complexity.
On the palate it is medium-bodied and very elegant, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a long, precise, slightly saline finish. Compared to Serralunga Barolos, it is more immediate and perfumed, but still structured and capable of developing additional complexity with short-to-medium ageing (8–15 years). It reflects the cooler, more graceful side of Nebbiolo from Barbaresco.
Ratings:
94 points – Falstaff
93 points – Wine Advocate (Robert Parker)
👉 These reviews consistently place it as one of the most precise and elegant interpretations of Massolino’s recent Barbaresco production.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18°C and ideally decanted for about 1 hour when young. It pairs beautifully with roasted meats, veal, mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, tajarin, and aged cheeses. Its balance of acidity and fine tannins also makes it very versatile at the table.
Producer:
Massolino is a historic family winery founded in 1896 in Serralunga d’Alba. Traditionally focused on Barolo, the estate has recently expanded into Barbaresco, working with top vineyards such as Albesani, Starderi, and Serraboella. Their approach remains classic: long macerations, controlled extraction, and ageing in large oak casks to preserve Nebbiolo’s purity and terroir expression.
