Description

The Massolino Barbaresco DOCG 2022 is a modern and elegant interpretation of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most respected producers, Massolino, based in Serralunga d’Alba. It represents a relatively recent expansion of the estate outside Barolo, while maintaining the same traditional philosophy focused on purity, structure, and terroir expression.

Tasting Notes:
The 2022 vintage is refined, fresh, and highly aromatic. On the nose it shows red cherry, raspberry, violets, rose petals, and light herbal and spicy notes. There is also a delicate mineral and slightly balsamic undertone that gives complexity. On the palate it is medium-bodied, precise, and elegant, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a long, floral and slightly savory finish. Compared to Barolo, this Barbaresco is more immediate and silky, but still has good ageing potential, typically developing greater depth over the next 8–15 years.

Ratings:

93 points – Wine Advocate (Robert Parker)

Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18°C and ideally decanted for about 1 hour when young. It pairs very well with roasted white and red meats, game dishes, mushroom-based recipes, truffle pasta, and aged cheeses. Its elegance and freshness also make it versatile with more delicate preparations compared to more structured Barolo wines.

Producer:
Massolino is a historic family winery founded in 1896, known primarily for its Barolo production in Serralunga d’Alba. In recent years, the estate has expanded into Barbaresco, applying the same traditional methods—long macerations and ageing in large oak casks—to express a more elegant and approachable side of Nebbiolo while maintaining depth and authenticity.
