Description

The Barolo 1955 Marchesi Villadoria is an extraordinarily rare and historically significant Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont, Italy. Produced by Marchesi Villadoria, this vintage represents a classic old-school Barolo, showcasing the elegance, structure, and remarkable ageing potential of traditional Nebbiolo from the mid-20th century.

Tasting Notes:

The 1955 vintage is fully mature and deeply tertiary. On the nose, it presents aromas of dried rose petals, red cherry preserve, leather, tobacco, forest floor, truffle, and dried herbs, with subtle balsamic and cedarwood notes emerging over time.

On the palate, it is elegant, refined, and highly evolved, with fully integrated tannins and gentle acidity. The fruit has transitioned into dried red berries and savory earthy tones, layered with tertiary nuances of leather, dried herbs, and subtle minerality. The finish is long, graceful, and contemplative, characteristic of mature Barolo from this era.

Serving & Food Pairing:

Best served at 18°C. Handle with care due to age; pour gently and decant only if necessary to separate sediment.

Pairs well with:

Braised beef or veal
Roasted game
Mushroom risotto
Truffle-based dishes
Aged hard cheeses
