Description
1971 Ca’ Rossa Barolo
Overview:
A beautifully mature expression of traditional Piedmontese winemaking, the 1971 Ca’ Rossa Barolo reflects one of the region’s most respected classic vintages. Now fully evolved, it offers the haunting tertiary complexity, savoury depth and quiet elegance that make mature Barolo such a compelling experience for collectors and lovers of old Nebbiolo.
Appearance:
Pale garnet with pronounced brick-orange evolution at the rim, showing the graceful maturity characteristic of long-aged traditional Barolo.
Nose:
Highly aromatic and fully tertiary, opening with dried rose petals, tar and autumn leaves layered with notes of sour cherry, leather and tobacco. With air, further complexity develops through truffle, cedarwood, dried herbs and earthy spice, all carried by the distinctive perfume of mature Nebbiolo.
Palate:
Elegant, savoury and beautifully resolved, with softened tannins now fully integrated into a silky, refined texture. The fruit has evolved into flavours of dried cherry, redcurrant and stewed strawberry supported by notes of leather, forest floor, liquorice and subtle balsamic nuance. Despite its age, the wine retains freshness and structure, giving remarkable harmony and persistence across the palate.
Finish:
Long, delicate and savoury, lingering through dried flowers, tobacco, earthy spice and gentle truffle notes.
About the Wine:
Ca’ Rossa represents the traditional style of Barolo production that defined Piedmont throughout the mid-20th century, where extended ageing and restrained winemaking allowed Nebbiolo’s natural complexity to emerge gradually over decades. Wines from vintages such as 1971 are particularly admired for their balance of structure, perfume and longevity, offering a captivating snapshot of classical Barolo before the modern era.
