Description
Elio Grasso, 2020 Barolo “Gavarini Chiniera”
From one of Barolo’s most admired traditional estates, the 2020 Gavarini Chiniera is a powerful yet beautifully refined expression of Nebbiolo from the Monforte d’Alba commune.
The bouquet is complex and expressive, opening with ripe red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange, followed by classic Barolo notes of rose petal, liquorice, tar and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is structured and focused, with layers of crimson fruit, dried herbs and mineral earthiness carried by vibrant acidity. Firm, finely grained tannins give impressive shape and length, leading to a long, savoury and finely balanced finish.
This is a Barolo of depth, precision and authority, combining intensity with elegance in true Elio Grasso style.
Food Pairing
A superb partner for slow-braised beef, venison, lamb shanks, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
Serving & Cellaring
Serve at 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before drinking. Enjoyable now with air, but will cellar gracefully for 15–20+ years.

Reviews
99 points- Luca Gardini
"A real gem of the territory, nose of great freshness, nectarine and lemon sage, citrusy touch of orange."
97 points- Vinous
"The 2020 Barolo Gavarini Chiniera is a heady, almost exotic wine."
Dense ruby colour. Fresh floral character of roses and violets with pomegranate fruit, liquorice and spices. On the palate there are velvety tannins, crisp acidity and a biting yet not dry finish. Medium-bodied and quite warming at the end. Drink from 2026.
