Description
Crafted by the renowned Blandy family, who have been producing Madeira wine since 1811, this Verdelho showcases the balance and longevity that Madeira wines are celebrated for. Matured in seasoned American oak casks using the traditional canteiro method, this wine has developed extraordinary depth over decades.
Tasting Notes:
This exceptional 1976 vintage from Blandy’s offers a beautifully complex bouquet of dried fruits, orange peel, toasted nuts, and a touch of smoky spice. On the palate, it’s vibrant and medium-dry, with layers of caramel, citrus zest, and saline minerality, culminating in a long, elegant finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Serve chilled at 12–14°C. Perfect as an aperitif or paired with game pâté, aged cheeses, or lightly spiced dishes. Also delightful with roasted nuts and dried fruits. Once opened it can be enjoyed over several months.
Cellaring Potential:
This wine is already nearly five decades old and drinking beautifully now, but its structure ensures it will remain vibrant for years to come. Store upright in a dark, fresh and dry room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.
Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.
