Description
Step into the world of fine aged Madeira with the 1989 Blandy’s Sercial, presented here in a 75cl bottle – perfect for a unique wine gift, sharing at the table or cellaring as a timeless classic. Crafted from the island’s noblest dry grape and aged for over 30 years, this single-vintage release showcases the impeccable craftsmanship of one of Madeira’s most historic producers.
Tasting Notes:
Amber gold in hue, the nose reveals vibrant aromas of toasted citrus peel, salted almonds, dried herbs and spice. The palate is bone-dry yet layered with complexity – flavours of roasted nuts, orange marmalade, sea salt and a touch of exotic wood linger beautifully, framed by mouth-watering acidity.
Winemaking:
Made using the traditional Canteiro method and aged in seasoned American oak casks in the Blandy’s wine lodge, this 1989 vintage has undergone natural oxidative maturation for decades, developing extraordinary depth and finesse.
Serving Suggestions:
It is recommended to pull the cork at least 2 day before enjoying this wine. Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Enjoy lightly chilled as an aperitif or pair with smoked almonds, hard cheeses, or dishes featuring umami and acidity. It’s also an exceptional match for consommé or sushi. Once opened, a Madeira wine should keep for many months without deteriorating.
Cellarage
This wine should be stored upright in a dark room with constant temperature, ideally no higher than 16ºC.
Blandy's Madeira has been synonymous with quality Madeira wine for over 200 years. The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. The family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira wine throughout its long history and members of the family continue to live on Madeira, maintaining a tradition that goes back to 1811.
