Description
The Burmester Sotto Voce Reserve Ruby Port is a vibrant, expressive wine that pays tribute to the classic Ruby Port style, enhanced with a touch of extra ageing and finesse. “Sotto Voce” — meaning “in a soft voice” — suggests the wine’s elegance and quiet depth, offering a more polished interpretation of a traditionally bold style. Produced from a blend of premium Douro grape varieties, this Reserve Ruby showcases Burmester’s ability to craft Ports of both structure and charm.
Deep ruby in colour, the wine bursts with aromas of ripe red and black fruits — cherry, plum, and blackberry — laced with subtle notes of violet and dark chocolate. Unlike younger Rubies, the Sotto Voce has undergone extended ageing in large wooden vats, lending it a more rounded character while retaining freshness and vivid fruit intensity.
On the palate, it is smooth and mouth-filling, offering generous flavours of juicy berries, spice, and a touch of liquorice. Well-balanced tannins and a moderate sweetness give the wine structure and harmony, while the finish is long, warm, and lightly spiced.
This Reserve Ruby Port is a perfect companion to dark chocolate desserts, berry tarts, or a cheeseboard featuring mature cheddar or Stilton.
