  • Description

1982 Château Chasse-Spleen comes from the legendary 1982 Bordeaux vintage and shows how well this much-loved Moulis estate can age. After more than forty years in bottle, the wine has moved into a beautifully mature phase, where structure and freshness are still present but wrapped in soft, evolved complexity.

In the glass, it reveals a brick-garnet core with a broad, fading rim. The nose is classical and savoury: dried blackcurrant and red cherry, cedar, cigar box and pencil shavings, with hints of leather, undergrowth and a gentle iron-mineral note typical of the Médoc. Subtle dried herbs and spice add further nuance as the wine opens in the glass.

On the palate, it is medium-bodied and nicely balanced, with fine, resolved tannins and a cool, savoury profile. Flavours of dried cassis, plum, leaf tobacco and earthy spice unfold gradually, supported by a still-lively acidity that keeps the wine in focus. The finish is long, dry and persistent, with lingering notes of cedar, graphite and gently fading fruit.

This is a bottle to savour for its authenticity and mature claret character rather than sheer power. Best served at cellar temperature after a careful, short decant to remove sediment. A rare opportunity to experience fully evolved Chasse-Spleen from the iconic 1982 vintage—poised, nuanced and quietly rewarding.
