Description

The 1986 Château Curé Bon La Madeleine is a rare mature Saint-Émilion Grand Cru that beautifully illustrates the charm and complexity of aged Right Bank Bordeaux. Produced from vineyards situated on the limestone and clay soils that have made Saint-Émilion famous, this wine has benefited from nearly four decades of bottle ageing, developing the nuanced character and elegance that mature Bordeaux enthusiasts so highly value.

Château Curé Bon La Madeleine was one of Saint-Émilion's most respected traditional estates, known for producing wines of depth, balance and longevity. The property earned a loyal following for its authentic expression of the appellation, combining the richness of Merlot with the structure and aromatic complexity provided by Cabernet Franc. Older vintages from the estate remain highly sought after by collectors looking to experience classic Saint-Émilion at maturity.

The bouquet is beautifully evolved, revealing aromas of dried black cherries, plum and blackberry, intertwined with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and leather. As the wine opens in the glass, further layers of truffle, forest floor and sweet spice emerge, creating a complex and inviting aromatic profile that reflects its considerable age and pedigree.

On the palate, the wine is soft, harmonious and fully mature. Flavours of dried dark fruits, earthy spice and cedar are supported by silky tannins and refreshing acidity, maintaining balance and elegance throughout. Notes of tobacco, woodland herbs and savoury complexity linger on the palate, leading to a graceful and persistent finish.

Now fully mature, the 1986 Château Curé Bon La Madeleine is best enjoyed over the coming years. Carefully decant to remove sediment and serve alongside roast lamb, duck, game dishes or mature cheeses. A charming mature Saint-Émilion that captures the timeless appeal and sophistication of traditional Right Bank Bordeaux.
