Description

1976 Château La Lagune

Overview:
A beautifully mature expression of traditional Haut-Médoc, the 1976 Château La Lagune comes from a hot and dry Bordeaux vintage that produced rich, approachable wines with distinctive character. As a Third Growth estate, Château La Lagune has long been admired for its elegance and balance, and well-preserved bottles today offer a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of mature Left Bank claret.

Appearance:
Deep garnet in colour with brick-red highlights at the rim, reflecting nearly five decades of bottle age and graceful development.

Nose:
Complex and fully evolved, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, red berries and dried plum intertwined with notes of leather, cedarwood and tobacco leaf. Further nuances of cocoa, mint, forest floor and gentle spice emerge with aeration, adding depth and maturity.

Palate:
Medium-bodied, smooth and harmonious, with tannins softened by age yet sufficient structure remaining to support the wine's mature fruit profile. Flavours of red and black berries mingle with notes of leather, cocoa and earthy complexity, while a thread of freshness maintains balance and poise.

Finish:
Long, elegant and savoury, lingering through dried fruit, cedar, tobacco and subtle spice notes.

Serving:
Best served at 16–18°C. Stand upright prior to opening to allow sediment to settle, then decant carefully through a fine strainer immediately before serving.

About the Estate:
Château La Lagune is a historic Third Growth estate in the Haut-Médoc, with origins dating back to the 16th century. The vineyard's gravelly soils are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, producing wines renowned for their elegance, refinement and ageing potential. Under the ownership of the Frey family, Château La Lagune continues to uphold its reputation as one of the leading estates of the southern Médoc.
