Description

Lafaurie-Peyraguey has produced some of Sauternes' most powerful wines for many decades now. The massively rich, yet fresh, lively 1988 offers a compelling, flowery, honeyed bouquet of vanilla custard, buttery orange/apricot scents, and smoky ceme brulee. The wine's zesty acidity brings everything into extraordinary clarity. With plenty of botrytis evident, this is a full-bodied, super-concentrated, fascinating, powerful yet elegant Sauternes that will age beautifully.

Appearance
Deep golden‑amber with rich, glowing hues that reflect significant maturity and concentration — a sign of noble rot development and age‑worthy sweetness.

Nose
Lusciously scented with intense honeyed aromas: candied apricot, orange marmalade, pineapple and tangerine peel, layered with caramel, butterscotch and crème brûlée perfume. There’s a captivating mix of fresh fruit and rich botrytis character.

Palate
Sweet and unctuous, yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity. Flavours of honeyed stone fruit — apricot, baked peach and marmalade — mingle with vanilla, toasted citrus zest, spice and a touch of smoky complexity. The texture is plush but lifted and never cloying.

Finish
Long and layered, with lingering sweet citrus, honey and spice, supported by zesty freshness that gives great drinkability for its age.
