Description
1975 Château Musar – Bekaa Valley, Lebanon (Gaston Hochar) – High Shoulder
A rare, fully mature Musar showing the house’s haunting, sauvage charm at perfect tertiary bloom. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, the nose is unmistakably Musar: dried red cherry and strawberry, sweet spice and cedar, rose and leather, with subtle volatile lift, balsamic, sous-bois and a touch of exotic dried fig/date. The palate is mid-weight, silken and savoury: red-fruit core threaded with dried orange peel, tobacco leaf and gentle gamey notes; acidity lively, tannins fine and resolved. Long, tapering finish of cherry skin, cedar and warm spice.
Producer note: Crafted by Gaston Hochar, Château Musar is Lebanon’s icon—Cabernet Cinsaut and Carignan (often with touches of Syrah/Grenache), traditional long élevage and bottle age, yielding uniquely aromatic wines that reward patience.
Serve: 16–18 °C. Stand upright 24 hours; very gentle decant for sediment immediately before service.
Food pairing: Lamb with herbs, slow-roast aubergine, muhammara, merguez, aged Comté or Gruyère.
