Description
Château Puy-Blanquet 2005 is a mature Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from one of Bordeaux's most celebrated vintages. Situated in the rolling hills of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse on the eastern side of Saint-Émilion, the estate produces wines that combine approachable fruit with classic Right Bank structure and elegance. The exceptional 2005 growing season delivered wines of remarkable concentration, balance and ageing potential throughout Bordeaux.
The estate has long been associated with the quality-focused traditions of Saint-Émilion and benefits from vineyards planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Château Puy-Blanquet is known for producing wines that offer excellent value while remaining true to the character of the appellation, showcasing ripe fruit, freshness and refined tannins.
Now fully mature, the 2005 vintage opens with inviting aromas of blackberries, dark cherries and cassis, accompanied by notes of spice, tobacco, cedar and subtle earthy complexity developed through bottle age. Hints of dark chocolate and graphite add further depth to the bouquet.
The palate is smooth and harmonious, offering layers of ripe black fruit supported by soft, integrated tannins and a gentle freshness. Mature Bordeaux characteristics of leather, tobacco and cedar complement the lingering fruit, creating a wine that is both satisfying and approachable. The finish is elegant and persistent, with savoury notes emerging alongside the remaining fruit concentration.
Drinking beautifully today, Château Puy-Blanquet 2005 is an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, game dishes and mature hard cheeses. It is a classic example of mature Saint-Émilion from an outstanding vintage, offering complexity, balance and considerable charm.
