Description

The 1982 Château Puy Castera is a mature Médoc that showcases the charm and complexity of traditional Bordeaux from one of the region's most celebrated vintages. Located in the heart of the Médoc, Château Puy Castera has long been known for producing classically styled wines that combine structure, balance and excellent ageing potential. After more than four decades in bottle, this vintage offers a rare opportunity to experience a fully mature claret at its most expressive.

The estate traces its origins back several centuries and is situated on the gravelly soils that have made the Médoc world-famous for red wine production. These well-drained vineyards are ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, producing wines that develop depth, elegance and complexity with age. Château Puy Castera has built a reputation for delivering authentic Bordeaux character while remaining approachable and rewarding to drink.

The bouquet is beautifully evolved, revealing aromas of dried blackcurrants, red cherries and plum, intertwined with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and cigar box. With aeration, additional layers of leather, forest floor and earthy spice emerge, creating a complex and inviting aromatic profile that reflects its considerable bottle age.

On the palate, the wine is elegant and harmonious, with softened tannins and a refined texture developed through decades of maturation. Flavours of dried dark fruits, cedarwood and savoury earth are balanced by refreshing acidity, while subtle notes of tobacco and spice carry through to a long, graceful finish. The wine displays the poise and maturity that make aged Médoc such a rewarding experience.

Now fully mature, the 1982 Château Puy Castera is best enjoyed in the near future. Carefully decant to remove sediment and serve alongside roast lamb, beef Wellington, venison or mature hard cheeses. A charming mature Bordeaux that captures the timeless appeal and understated elegance of traditional Médoc winemaking.
