Description
The Chianti 1963 Ruffino Magnifico is an exceptionally rare and historic Tuscan wine from one of Italy’s most iconic producers. Coming from a legendary era of traditional Chianti production, this bottle has evolved for more than sixty years, offering a fully mature expression of Sangiovese and classic Tuscan winemaking.
Tasting Notes:
The 1963 vintage is deeply evolved and tertiary in character. On the nose it reveals aromas of dried cherry, leather, tobacco, cedarwood, forest floor, balsamic notes, and dried herbs, with delicate hints of spice and old wood emerging with aeration.
On the palate it is elegant, mellow, and harmonious, with softened tannins and gentle acidity supporting the wine’s mature savory profile. The fruit has evolved into notes of dried red berries and earthy complexity, leading to a long, subtle, and refined finish typical of great aged Chianti Riserva wines.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Best served at 18°C. Given its age, careful handling is essential: gentle decanting or slow pouring is recommended to avoid disturbing sediment. This wine pairs beautifully with:
braised meats
Tuscan game dishes
mushroom risotto
truffle-based pasta
aged pecorino and mature cheeses
Producer:
Ruffino is one of the most historic and internationally recognized Tuscan wineries, founded in 1877. The estate became famous worldwide for its Chianti wines and especially for the prestigious “Riserva Ducale” selections, known for their longevity and classic style. Historic vintages such as this 1963 represent an important piece of Italian wine history and are highly sought after by collectors of mature Tuscan wines.
Ratings:
Modern critic scores are generally unavailable for wines from this period, as international wine rating systems were not yet established in the 1960s. The wine’s significance lies primarily in its rarity, provenance, historical importance, and condition.
