Description

The 1966 Chianti DOC Torraccia Montespertoli Edison is a rare and historically interesting bottle that reflects the traditional character of Chianti from the mid‑20th century. Having aged for many decades, this wine now offers a fully evolved expression of Sangiovese and other traditional Tuscan varieties.

Tasting Notes:

This mature 1966 vintage shows the classic tertiary development expected from an aged Chianti. On the nose, expect aromas of dried red cherry, leather, tobacco, earthy underbrush, dried herbs, and hints of balsamic and forest floor nuances. With gentle air exposure, more complex notes of cedar, dried flowers, and spice can emerge.

On the palate the wine is elegant and mellow, with softened tannins, moderate acidity, and an emphasis on savoury and tertiary flavours. The structure is gentle rather than powerful, showing a refined balance and a long, subtle finish characteristic of mature Chianti DOC from this era.

Serving & Food Pairing:

Serve at 18°C (64°F). Because of its age, careful decanting—or gentle pouring to avoid disturbing sediment—is recommended. This wine pairs beautifully with classic Italian dishes such as:

slow‑cooked beef or lamb
mushroom risotto
game birds
aged pecorino and other mature cheeses
pasta with light ragù

Producer:

Torraccia Montespertoli is a traditional Tuscan estate located near Montespertoli, in the Chianti Classico area between Florence and Siena. While not among the most widely known historic names internationally, the estate has a legacy of producing Chianti in a classic style rooted in the region’s traditions. The “Edison” designation on this older bottling may reflect a specific selection or vineyard parcel from that vintage era.
