Description
The Chiaretto 1965 Cantina Sociale di Soave is a rare historic rosé wine from Veneto, Italy. Produced by Cantina di Soave, it is a traditional Chiaretto-style rosé, typically made from local red grape varieties (often Corvina-based blends in the Verona area). It reflects the classic cooperative winemaking style of the 1960s: simple, territorial, and designed for early consumption, though in rare well-preserved cases it can evolve interesting tertiary complexity.
Tasting notes:
The 1965 vintage is now at an extremely advanced stage of evolution. The nose is delicate and fading, showing aromas of dried red berries, rosehip, dried cherry skin, tea leaf, faint citrus peel, and forest floor. With aeration, very subtle notes of honeyed oxidation, herbs, and earthy tones may appear briefly.
On the palate it is light, fragile, and fully evolved, with acidity now providing the main structural support. The fruit has largely transformed into subtle dried-fruit and herbal impressions, with a gentle oxidative complexity typical of very old rosé wines. The finish is short to medium in intensity, soft, and fading.
Serving & food pairing:
Best served at 14–16°C, with very careful handling and no decanting.
It pairs well with:
Light appetizers and cold cuts
Delicate fish dishes
Vegetable-based starters
Mild soft cheeses
Simple traditional Veneto cuisine
Producer:
Cantina di Soave is one of Italy’s most important wine cooperatives, founded in the early 20th century in the Verona area. It has historically played a major role in producing and distributing accessible, traditional Veneto wines such as Soave and Chiaretto.
