Description

1950 Croft Vintage Port

Overview:
A beautifully mature Vintage Port from a well-regarded post-war vintage, the 1950 Croft reflects the traditional style of long-aged Port, where decades in bottle gradually transform youthful power into elegance, complexity and tertiary richness. Now fully evolved, it offers a refined and contemplative drinking experience for lovers of mature fortified wines.

Appearance:
Medium garnet with tawny-amber evolution at the rim, showing graceful maturity and delicate bottle-aged character.

Nose:
Soft, evolved and inviting, revealing aromas of roasted nuts, dried plum and fig layered with notes of caramelised fruit, polished wood and gentle spice. With air, subtle nuances of orange peel, tobacco and antique oak emerge, adding further complexity.

Palate:
Light-bodied, silky and mellow, with sweet nutty plum flavours supported by notes of dried fruits, walnut and soft toffee. The once-firm structure has resolved beautifully over time, leaving a harmonious and refined texture balanced by lingering sweetness and mature oxidative complexity.

Finish:
Elegant, warming and persistent, lingering through dried fruits, roasted nuts and delicate caramelised nuance.

Decanting:
Stand upright for several days before opening to allow heavy sediment to settle. Decant slowly through a fine strainer and allow gentle aeration before serving at 16–18°C. Fragile corks are common with Ports of this age; strain any cork fragments carefully during decanting.

About the House:
Croft is one of the oldest and most respected Port houses, with a history dating back to the 16th century. Renowned for producing elegant and approachable Vintage Ports, the house has long been associated with wines of refinement, aromatic complexity and graceful ageing potential.
