    Croft, 1994 Vintage Port

The 1994 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest Port declarations of the late twentieth century. Near-perfect growing conditions in the Douro Valley produced grapes of exceptional concentration, balance and ripeness. Almost all of the major houses declared the vintage, and the resulting wines are celebrated for their power, richness and remarkable ageing potential.

Croft’s 1994 Vintage Port is a classic expression of this outstanding year. The wine opens with intense aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis and plum, layered with notes of dark chocolate, spice and a hint of wild herbs. On the palate it is full-bodied and richly textured, showing concentrated black fruit supported by firm tannins and a vibrant freshness that gives the wine structure and longevity.

With more than three decades of bottle age, the wine is beginning to show the complexity and harmony that make mature Vintage Port so rewarding. Expect flavours of dark fruit, cocoa and subtle spice, leading to a long, powerful and elegant finish.

A superb bottle for celebrating a 1994 birthday or anniversary, and a perfect partner to blue cheeses such as Stilton, rich chocolate desserts, or simply enjoyed slowly at the end of a special meal.

Quite meaty, quite a tarry and umami character, nuttiness too over the plummy fruit. Mouth-coating, full, creamy fruitiness and sweetness, a slick of cocoa, spice and quite long. Very lovely and resolved.
