1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

The 1977 vintage stands among the greatest declared years of the twentieth century for Vintage Port, producing wines of extraordinary depth, concentration and longevity. Fonseca, renowned for its rich, opulent house style, produced one of the benchmark wines of the vintage — a Port that has evolved magnificently over decades in bottle.

Tasting Notes:
Now showing a deep garnet core with a brick-tinged rim, the nose is intensely aromatic and layered, offering ripe blackberry, cassis and plum alongside notes of fig, dark chocolate, cedarwood and warm spice. With further air, hints of tobacco leaf, walnut and dried herbs emerge. On the palate it is full-bodied and sumptuous, with velvety tannins that have softened beautifully over time while still providing structure. Concentrated flavours of black cherry, raisin and cocoa are balanced by fresh acidity, leading to a long, powerful and persistent finish.

Serving & Food Pairing:
Careful decanting is essential to remove natural sediment and allow the wine to open fully. Serve slightly below room temperature. A classic accompaniment to blue cheeses such as Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner wine.
