Description
1996 Fonseca Quinta do Panascal Vintage Port
Quinta do Panascal is one of Fonseca’s most celebrated estates in the Douro Valley, known for producing richly expressive single-quinta Vintage Ports. The 1996 vintage, while not a universally declared year, produced attractive and well-balanced wines at estate level, and this Panascal bottling now shows over two decades of graceful development.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby-garnet in colour with the first signs of maturity at the rim, the nose is inviting and aromatic, offering notes of ripe blackberry, cassis and dark plum layered with hints of violets, cedarwood and sweet spice. On the palate it is full-bodied yet harmonious, with supple tannins that have softened over time. Flavours of black cherry, fig and dark chocolate unfold alongside subtle liquorice and warm baking spice. The structure remains firm but polished, leading to a long, smooth and gently warming finish.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine to breathe before serving. Best enjoyed slightly below room temperature. A fine accompaniment to Stilton or other blue cheeses, walnut tart, rich chocolate desserts, or simply enjoyed on its own at the end of a special meal.
Summary:
A characterful and well-matured single-quinta Vintage Port from Fonseca’s renowned Quinta do Panascal estate. Offering depth, balance and classic house richness
