Fonseca 2024 Vintage Port
The Rarest Fonseca Vintage Declaration to Date
Fonseca has announced the release of its 2024 Vintage Port, marking the house’s first classic declaration in seven years and its smallest declaration to date. Produced from a small but exceptional harvest, the 2024 vintage perfectly captures the opulent and expressive house style for which Fonseca is renowned.
Rich deep purple in colour with a fine violet rim, the nose is intensely aromatic and beautifully layered, revealing pure black cherry, cassis, and blackcurrant fruit alongside delicate floral notes of violets. Subtle hints of tropical fruit, crushed mint, and wild herbs add freshness and complexity, while an attractive mineral edge gives the wine remarkable definition and elegance.
The palate is rich, voluptuous, and beautifully textured, with taut polished tannins supporting concentrated woodland fruit flavours and layers of dark berry intensity. Notes of exotic wood, wild herbs, and the distinctive minty freshness often associated with great Fonseca vintages add further depth and character. Vibrant acidity brings precision and lift, leading to a long, energetic, and persistent finish.
The 2024 growing season provided excellent water reserves, moderate summer conditions, and a cooler harvest period, allowing for long fermentations and exceptional phenolic ripeness. Traditional foot treading in granite lagares and co-fermentation techniques have produced a wine of remarkable freshness, dimension, and complexity that will reward long-term ageing while already displaying impressive youthful exuberance.

Fonseca was established in 1815 and is regarded as one of the great names of Vintage Port. Produced by five generations of the Guimaraens family, Fonseca Vintage Ports are celebrated for their opulent fruit, velvety texture, and expressive aromatic complexity. The house style combines richness and voluptuousness with freshness and structure, allowing the wines to age magnificently for decades while remaining approachable in their youth. The backbone of the blend comes from the renowned Quinta do Panascal, supported by Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta de Santo António, estates that together contribute depth, structure, elegance, and the unmistakable Fonseca character.
